Spring is around the corner!
In the meantime, your League hasn't been idle. We have a number of initiatives and projects in progress, some of which we could use your help with. Read on below, and stay tuned!

LWVUS Youth Voter Registration Grant

LWVFC has received a $500 grant from LWVUS to focus on youth voter registration at the high schools. (A big thank you to Catherine Keppler for spearheading that effort!) The grant targets underserved young voters, those who live with food or housing insecurity, or are the first in their families to speak English primarily, go to college, or have U.S. citizenship. Following a model that was successful at Frontier Regional last year, a small team of League members including several retired teachers reached out to eight county schools and were invited to come in and talk with juniors and seniors in several history and government classes.  We plan to do brief presentations for these classes throughout March, fielding as many questions as students have, and to register or pre-register many on the spot. The grant funded pens to hand out with the LWVFC logo and Facebook page address on them, “I Registered to Vote Today” stickers, a series of posters to leave with each school, and some related signage and handouts. The grant stipulates that we check with students later to see if they followed through on their pledge to vote. We plan to use our Facebook page to post classroom photos, with reminders and encouragement for students to vote, so keep your eyes peeled for updates there.
