Tour season hoping to begin June 1
|
Oh, no! The kangaroos are sad that the opening of tour season is delayed until at least June 1 due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines. They hope to see you sometime this tour season!
We will keep you posted about tour availability on our website. Until then, check out our
virtual tour!
This video is divided into a dozen different chapters, so you can watch a few at a time and learn about what goes into caring for cows, growing crops, and making dairy products. And if you make it to the end, there's a section about the funny things our
kangaroos do ... complete with sound effects :)

Alexis Limon and her son participating in Hansen's Dairy events |
The May Customer of the Month is Alexis Limon
of Waterloo.
"Having grown up in Cedar Falls, I've always been around Hansen's Dairy products," Alexis said. "But when I had my son is when Hansen's products became a staple in my fridge."
Alexis and her son enjoy all Hansen's products because they're "delicious, fresh, reasonably priced, and local!" One of their favorite snacks is to enjoy cheese curds with fresh air-popped popcorn for their special movie nights.
"We love that it's local and we can go see the farm and see the events that Hansen's comes up with," she said. "Here are three pictures that show
how much Hansen's is a part of our family: meeting the baby kangaroo at the Waterloo store last year; ice cream after getting a shiner at school; and visiting the kangaroo on a group tour of the farm."
Thanks, Alexis! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our
Facebook
and
Twitter
pages.

From left, the three triplets - Lafalot, Luvalot, and Livalot - join their mother, Legend, and their older full sister, Laquanda. |
Our May Cow Family of the Month is Legend and her four daughters - Laquanda, 2, and her triplets Livalot, Lafalot and Luvalot.
It was May 17, 2019, when Legend surprised us with the triplet girls, giving birth in front of a farm tour.
Our "legendairy" triplets turn 1 year old this month! If you missed the story about their birth, check out our
blog post
from last year. They are are all growing and doing well. They are nice to work with and each have their own personalities. They will be getting pregnant for the first time in a few months!
Legend turns 7 years old on July 10. She is due to calve on July 25, and we think she is having multiples again! After giving birth to the triplets, she never missed a beat. During her current lactation, she has produced 34,353 pounds of milk, has never gotten sick and is always very nice to work with. She has now produced 134,736 pounds of milk in her lifetime!
Legend's daughter Laquanda turns 2 on May 25. She just had her first calf three weeks ago. Hopefully she and her sisters can continue the "legendairy" production and longevity that their mom has.

Cooking with Hansen's
|
Here's a simple, fun recipe that's good any time of year, but especially now as we are looking for ways to support our nation and local food producers. I like using a sausage because then I don't have to add extra spices, but you can use any ground meat. This is also delicious over a bed of fresh spring greens or asparagus - fresh this time of year. Later in the season you can enjoy it over roasted eggplant or spaghetti squash. For more recipes that make homemade easy and delicious, check out my website
