United for Recovery & Resilience

Our hearts are with the people, communities, and wildlife of Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Melissa. The storm’s impact across the island has been devastating, destroying homes, damaging infrastructure, and affecting both human and animal lives.

At ZDR3, we believe that compassion and action must go hand in hand. In moments like this, our community’s strength lies in its ability to come together across borders, disciplines, and species.

We are actively monitoring wildlife and zoological facility needs while continuing to participate in collaborative calls to strengthen situational awareness. We continue to assist with recovery coordination and resource support, and remain deeply committed to ensuring animals and those who care for them receive both immediate and sustained care.

After events of this magnitude, financial resources remain the most critical lifeline. Getting recovery funds directly into the hands of those working tirelessly to protect and rebuild is one of the most effective ways to help.

At this stage, sending physical supplies remains challenging, as transportation routes and supply lines across the island are still recovering. Many ports and roads are focused on moving essential goods like food, water, and medical aid to affected communities. Until those systems stabilize, even the most well-intentioned shipments for animal care could experience significant delays or difficulties reaching their destinations safely. For this reason, ZDR3 has focused its efforts on financial support efforts to the impacted facilities.

Recovery funds are now being disbursed to impacted facilities, even as supply-line disruptions and other challenges continue to evolve. If you would like to contribute before we complete this round of fund distribution, please send your donation by November 12, 2025. 100% of funds raised are being distributed to facilities housing non-domesticated animals impacted by the hurricane to ensure they are sent where they are most needed.

True recovery is never a linear process; it takes time, coordination, and compassion. It’s about restoring stability, trust, and care. It means looking at the whole picture: assessing needs, supporting people, and ensuring that animals—often the silent victims of disaster—are not forgotten.

We invite our network and the broader zoological community to join us in extending compassion, solidarity, and tangible support. Together, we can bring hope, help, and healing to those who need it most. 💚🖤💛
