New World Screwworm

Information and Resources for the Zoological Community

As New World Screwworm (NWS) continues to be a topic of discussion across the animal care community, we wanted to share a resource that USDA APHIS Animal Care has requested be distributed to animal facilities and organizations.

ZAHP Resources & Facility Preparedness

For facilities seeking additional information and guidance regarding New World Screwworm (NWS), we encourage you to follow the American Association of Zoo Veterinarian (AAZV) Zoo and Aquarium All Hazards Partnership (ZAHP) newsletter. ZAHP has developed a number of resources and communications on NWS, and remains a trusted source of information for zoological and wildlife facilities.

As part of routine emergency preparedness efforts, facilities may also wish to review existing contingency plans and consider how NWS-related restrictions or requirements could affect animal movement, evacuation, temporary housing, quarantine capabilities, and other response operations.
