Winter Storm Update

ZDR3 is actively monitoring the significant winter storm impacting multiple states across the Northeastern United States. Blizzard conditions—including heavy snowfall, sustained winds, travel restrictions, and localized power outages—continue to affect communities throughout the region.

This morning we received a request for support and are identifying needed resources. We will update you when we know more.

Several zoological facilities fall within the storm’s impact zone, and we remain in close situational awareness as conditions evolve.

As travel restrictions lift and it becomes safe to assess operational impacts, facilities may experience recovery-related needs such as snow removal, structural snow load management, generator support, or staffing challenges.

If you or members of your team can assist with recovery efforts, please complete the Offer of Support form so we can assess capacity and coordinate efficiently if needed.

As always, resource allocation is a top priority for ZDR3 and our trusted network partners. Timely communication ensures that facilities in need receive the appropriate support in a coordinated, efficient, and sustainable manner.

We appreciate your continued commitment to one another and to the safety and welfare of the teams and animals in your care.

Please prioritize safety and follow local emergency guidance.

If You Need Assistance

If you call for assistance, please also text or email details to RequestSupport@zdr3.org to help us more accurately assess your situation and needs. Be sure to also contact appropriate emergency response and/or oversight agencies.

Ride-Out Teams are Social Media Favorites

We shared Facebook posts about the ride-out teams from Southwick’s Zoo and Mystic Aquarium. Our followers are showing both a lot of love. Most importantly, posts such as these demonstrate the level of preparation and work it takes for these teams to ensure the animals and staff are safe during extreme weather conditions. If you would like us to feature your ride-out team, please contact us at communications@zdr3.org. See our Facebook page.
