FEATURED ARTIST

TIM O'BRIEN

of Cortez

Tim's art will be featured in the Meeting & Makerspace July 1-31

About Tim:

First grade

My teacher yelled out, Tim! She whisks down the aisle toward me. Startled, arms judder; knocking crayons from desk to floor. She slips on a rogue Crayola. She falls and is rolled out on a gurney. I repeat first grade.

My Medium

Encaustic

(Photography, Painting, mixed media)

Bees wax mixed with dammar resin.

Pigment prints on mixed paper types.

Various detritus and yes, No crayons!

Miscellaneous ephemera

Art is my way of letting life know I do notice the little things; acknowledgement. Also, art is a fun way to puzzle out the questions I did not know to ask.

INSIDERS

The Kegerator

We recently acquired a well-loved, dual-tap kegerator so that we can expand our drink offerings (EsoTerra Cider!). This part is exciting, but what was extra cool was the previous owner had moved from a little town called Minturn (pop. 1,200), near Vail. Jodi (the ZU Keeper) lived there! We had friends in common and shared memories. A great reminder of how closely our worlds are connected. Note: We are working with a tap consultant and hope to have it up and running before the end of the month.

Bird

You'll see this signature piece for Tim O'Brien's show in the front window all month long (unless you purchase it!). There is a story behind this art and involves an actual raven found on the ground in his yard. At the time it was only a baby and injured. It's not our story to tell, but be sure to ask Tim or Collette (Tim's partner) about it when you see them around town in Cortez.
