November 2018 Zack's Place Newsletter
October in Review
October was a wonderful month, despite the rain and cold that sped up the foliage season and made the leaves fall quickly to the ground!  Winter is definitely lurking……
Our field trips continued to be abundant, as we made our way around the upper valley having fun and enriching our lives! We went to the HOP at Dartmouth to see “Rainbow Fish and to the LOH in Lebanon to see “Shadow Play” getting our theater fix! We went to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center (UVAC) a couple of times to swim and enjoy the amazing water slide! We went apple picking at Maple Wood Farms in Woodstock Vermont twice, first to pick “good” apples to sell at the Apple and Crafts Fair and a second time to pick drops for apple cider pressing…..which brings us to another wonderful field trip we took to Jamie Fields in Hartland VT to see her farm, animals and cider mill. Here we learned about making cider and had a fabulous picnic lunch! We went cycling with Vermont Adaptive for our last cycle of the season and we went bowling at Maple Lanes in Claremont …..always a fave! We walked to Billings farms for some wonderful farm programs and we hiked Mt. Tom and made it to the pogue on a blustery cold day…..Brrrrrrrrr. We had a wonderful harvest dance in Windsor thanks to the “Special Needs Self Advocacy Group” and we are having a Halloween costume dance at the WUHS thanks to Dharma and the WUHS students! In honor of Halloween we are also going to watch “Hocus Pocus” on the big screen at Pentangle as well as watching the WES Halloween Parade, around the green!
On the artistic side of things we went to Artistree weekly to do clay with Fiona, we made kindness rocks with Finnie, we worked on our greeting cards with Lynne, and we enjoyed art with Caitlin andLolly and Bonnie. We also loved having our wonderful story teller Jools, enhancing our imaginations.
On the musical side of things we sang with Kerry, we made music with Kathleen and Mark and we pounded those drums with Ted! We also managed to sneak in some wild dancing and karaoke sessions with Kitty!
We continued to be active and health conscious, working out with Bari, playing games with Carl and doing yoga twice a week with our wonderful yogini’s.
Last but not least we had cooking with chef Sarah and great reading sessions sharing stories and books with Diane Dugan and Bettyanne McGuire.
We always enjoy our “pop-up” activities that include walks around town, library visits, poster deliveries, visits with friends and much much more. Overall it was a wonderful October!

Zack's Place Turkey Trot! Why we do it!

Its that time of year again where all we do is talk turkey around Zack's Place. Most of you know about the Turkey Trot and about 1700 of you participate.
This fundraiser means the world to our participants. Not just the day of the event where you will meet a good amount of our participants, but also what the trot does for Zack's Place.

First it gives a lot of people awareness of our center. They know about us. Some have visited, some have met our participants, and some volunteer and some participate in programs with us.

Second it provides the funds to make these programs happen. And every registration counts! When we had 200 people participate we raised $6000, and when we have 2000 participate we raise $60,000. The programs that this trot pays for are amazing! You can see by the pictures above and each month, but they really are amazing. We go to theater performances, we ski, we take educational classes, we do yoga, we go on amazing field trips. The list goes on and on and the reason we can do this is the Turkey Trot.
So know, that every registration counts.

It also creates an amazing community event where over 2000 people are gathered and they are all there to do good. The feeling is amazing. People taking an hour out of their day to give.

Don't delay another second go ahead and register!
