September In Review

In September, Zack's Place offered a variety of programs both in-house and out in the community. Our first outing included a visit to Hathaway Farm in Rutland, VT, where we explored their corn maze, went for a wagon ride, and petted the animals in their petting zoo. On the way back from Rutland, we stopped at the waterfall in Killington and hiked out to enjoy the fantastic view and wildflowers along the trail to the falls. The Tunbridge fair was a big hit again this year. We all enjoyed watching Molly's pig (#5) win the Pig Race. She was thrilled to bring home many prizes from her win!

We also enjoyed educational field trips, such as visiting The Rock of Ages Visitor Center in Barre, VT, and viewing the massive quarries. We attended "Marooned, a Space Comedy" at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro and visited the Historic Deerfield Museum and Village. Everyone enjoyed looking at the historic buildings and sights they had to offer. Apple picking at Wellwood Orchards was a lot of fun!

We strive to stay active and fit at Zack's Place. September was no exception. Participants enjoyed hikes, biking, pickleball, and yoga, to name a few. Biking the Rail Trail in Lebanon with Vermont Adaptive and bowling at Maple Lanes in Claremont remain the top choices for our participants. The weather cooperated for all the outdoor activities we planned for September!

Other fun things included a lovely afternoon at Erin Norton's home in Woodstock, a foliage hike on the Aqueduct Trails in Woodstock, art with Finnie, yoga with Annie, and science with Linda. Music is always fun at ZP. Participants enjoyed music with Kerry, Bob, Kathleen, Mark, and Emerson.

The Golf Tournament was a monumental success, bringing in over $75,000.00. Thank you to all the sponsors, participants, and volunteers who worked to make this happen. October will be busy as we gear up for the Zack's Place Turkey Trot. Don't forget to register.

At the end of September, not going unnoticed, a group of volunteers from Union Mutual out of Montpelier, VT, gave us a day of volunteering and came to Zack's Place to plant shrubs next to our upper parking lot. We planted hydrangeas, blueberries, rhododendrons, and spirea. Thank you to volunteers Dave, Nathan, Magne, Kyler, Weaver, Connor, Cam, and Hudson (pictured above)

Message From the Executive Director,

Beth Robinson

As I wrap up my first month as Executive Director, I want to express how deeply grateful I am for the overwhelming support I have received. Continuing this journey of stepping into this role has been exciting and challenging, and I could not have made it this far without each of you.

A special thank you goes out to Dail Frates, whose guidance and mentorship have been invaluable. Her vast experience and insights will help me navigate the learning curve, I'm incredibly fortunate to have such strong support during this transition.

I'm still learning the ropes and know I have a long way to go, but knowing I have such a strong, supportive community behind me makes the journey smoother.

Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and belief in our shared mission. I'm looking forward to building something even greater together.

With sincere appreciation,

Beth
