A Fresh Start, With a Little Grace

September brings a fresh start, new routines, and the familiar whirlwind of back-to-school season. For families navigating chronic medical conditions, that transition can come with an extra layer of planning, flexibility, and care. This month, we're embracing the opportunity to reset with compassion—creating routines that support the whole family while remembering that not every day will go according to plan. At Zebra Crossings, we're also looking ahead to fall with opportunities for children and families to connect, play, and make memories together.

September Resolution: Reset Routines with Compassion

As summer winds down and school begins, make a commitment to build routines that support your family without adding unnecessary pressure. A successful routine doesn't have to be perfect - it just needs to work for your family. Give yourself permission to adjust, slow down, and celebrate the little wins along the way.

September Action: Reset, Support, & Connect

Support Yourself & Your Family

A few simple changes can make the transition to fall feel a little smoother:

  • Start small. Choose one morning, evening, or weekly routine to establish before tackling everything else.
  • Prep for tomorrow. Pack bags, choose outfits, or organize medications and essentials the night before to make mornings less hectic.
  • Build in breathing room. Leave extra time between activities whenever possible. A little flexibility can make a big difference.
  • Keep the fun! Schedule time for family walks, game nights, favorite snacks, or simply relaxing together. Routines should make room for joy, too.
  • Give yourself grace. Some days will go smoothly. Others…won't. That's okay! Resetting is part of the routine.

Get Involved

This September, Reset with Compassion by looking for ways to support families during the back-to-school transition. Do you have a skill, resource, or connection that could help? Consider volunteering your time, sharing helpful resources, lending your expertise, or simply asking a family, “How can I help?”

Small acts of support can make a big difference - especially when families are juggling school schedules, appointments, activities, and the everyday challenges of chronic medical conditions.

As September settles in, remember that a fresh start doesn't mean starting over. It means finding what works, making adjustments when needed, and giving ourselves and each other a little more grace. Together, we can create a community where families feel supported, children feel included, and everyone has room to learn, grow, play, and thrive.

That’s a wrap on Camp Spinnaker 2026!

What an incredible weekend! Camp Spinnaker 2026 was packed with adventure, laughter, friendship, and memories that will last long after the weekend ended!

Our campers made the most of every minute with canoeing, swimming, hiking, archery, climbing, fishing, fly fishing, and so much more!

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this weekend so special:

  • McGregor Memorial EMS & Breathe New Hampshire - thank you for providing engaging and important asthma education sessions!
  • Creek & Current - thank you for an incredible, hands-on fishing lesson featuring both traditional fishing AND fly fishing. Our campers had a "reel" good time!
  • Dr. Warman & The Children's Hospital at Montefiore Staff & Volunteers - thank you for continuing the Camp Spinnaker tradition with us year after year. We’re so grateful for this ongoing partnership and the opportunity to collaborate in making Camp Spinnaker special!

  • Camp Merrowvista staff - thank you for helping create such a welcoming, fun, and memorable camp experience.
  • Our amazing Zebra Crossings volunteers - you brought energy, encouragement, patience, and plenty of smiles. Camp simply wouldn’t be the same without you!
  • And most importantly, thank you to our incredible asthma families for being part of the Camp Spinnaker community and making 2026 such a success. You are the heart of this camp!

Now that everyone is back home, we hope the Camp Spinnaker spirit is still going strong - with lots of stories being shared, new friendships growing, and plenty of favorite moments to look back on!

Until next summer… keep exploring, keep adventuring, and keep those camp memories close!

We can’t wait to see everyone back at Camp Spinnaker next summer!

Sponsor Spotlight

Sponsor Spotlight: Event Super Supporter – Liquid PC

Some supporters write a check. The best ones show up, bring the energy, and jump right into the fun!

We’re thrilled to welcome Liquid PC to the Zebra Crossings family as a new sponsor in 2026! This year, Liquid PC went all in, sponsoring both of our signature fundraisers—the Moms On The Run 5K and the Tabitha Lemon Memorial Golf Tournament—and then showing up to participate in both!

That’s what we call an Event Super Supporter!

They laced up and ran in the 5K, cheered on fellow runners, and then traded running shoes for golf clubs for a fun day out on the green at the Tabitha Lemon Memorial Golf Tournament. Liquid PC helped make these events more than fundraisers. They helped create opportunities for our community to come together, have fun, and raise critical support for children and families living with chronic medical conditions.

We’re so grateful for Liquid PC’s enthusiasm, generosity, and willingness to show up and be part of the action. Welcome to the Zebra Crossings community - we can’t wait to see what we do together next!

You Make The Difference…

Donate. Sponsor. Volunteer.

Get Involved

Small Acts. Big Impact.

September is a season of new beginnings—and a wonderful time to look beyond our own routines and ask, “How can I show up for someone else?” During the back-to-school transition, a little extra support can go a long way. Whether you have an hour, a special skill, or simply a willingness to lend a hand, volunteering is a powerful way to strengthen your community and help families feel supported, connected, and cared for.

There are countless ways to make a difference right where you live. Volunteer at your child’s school, help a teacher or classroom get ready for the year, spend an afternoon supporting your local library, or lend a hand at a food pantry. Pick up litter at a neighborhood park, help a neighbor, or share your talents with a local organization. You don't have to do something big to make a big difference.

Ready to Get Involved?

  • Share your time with Zebra Crossings. Our programs are powered by people who believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, connect, and simply be a kid. Volunteer at a Zebra Crossings day program, where you can help create fun, welcoming experiences for children and families.

  • Make camp memories together. Weekend camps are filled with laughter, adventure, and connection - and volunteers help make it all possible. Join our weekend camp volunteer team and help with activities, meals, games, and all the little moments that make camp feel like home.

  • Put your skills to work. Are you a planner, organizer, creative thinker, fundraiser, community connector, or behind-the-scenes problem solver? Consider joining a Zebra Crossings committee. Your experience and ideas can help strengthen programs and create new opportunities for the families we serve.

  • Be part of the celebration. From fundraisers to family events, special event volunteers help turn a good day into an unforgettable one. Help with setup, activities, welcoming guests, registration, or wherever an extra set of hands is needed.

  • Help shape our future. Looking for a deeper way to make an impact? Consider joining the Zebra Crossings Board of Directors. Board members bring their experience, passion, and community connections to help guide the organization and expand its impact.

  • Have another way you'd like to help? We'd love to hear from you! Whether you have a few hours to give, a specific skill to share, or an idea for how you can contribute, there may be a place for you at Zebra Crossings. Reach out to learn more about volunteer opportunities and find the one that's right for you.

When you volunteer, you're giving more than your time. You're helping create a place where children with chronic medical conditions can try something new, families can take a breath, friendships can grow, and everyone can feel like they belong. This September, reset with compassion—and find a way to show up for someone else. You might just make someone's day, create a lasting memory, or become part of a community that changes your life, too.
