Thank you to everyone who visited, participated and helped out at the annual Zenith Aircraft Homecoming this past Friday and Saturday! We had a fantastic event celebrating Zenith Aircraft's 30th anniversary, with two full days of educational and fun activities at the Zenith kit factory in Mexico, Missouri. Check out the many photos of the various activities.
Highlights included the STOL (short take-off and landing) and flying demonstrations on Saturday, and numerous panel discussions where experts, as well as Zenith builders and flyers, shared their experiences. The Zenith Homecoming celebrates Zenith builders and flyers, and they came out in force once again, flying in to the event from around the country in their beautifully finished Zenith kit aircraft.
Numerous educational seminars and several hands-on workshops kept visitors busy throughout the day, learning about building and flying kit aircraft. We even hosted a women's only workshop to introduce women to kit aircraft building! Visitors toured the modern Zenith Aircraft kit production facilities to see and to learn how the all-metal kit parts are fabricated, while Zenith Aircraft staff and volunteers demonstrated the ease of the kit assembly with modern final hole size match-drilled parts.
Great weather on both days allowed for outdoor socializing and dining, with record attendance at the evening dinner events. Once again, Saturday morning's pancake breakfast, served by EAA Chapter 944, was donated by Kitplanes magazine and Avemco aviation insurance.
We thank the vendors and sponsors who participated and to those who provided fantastic prizes to Zenith builders, owners and pilots!
Select suppliers and vendors (who supply products and services needed to finish and fly kit aircraft) were invited to participate once again, meeting with new and existing Zenith aircraft builders, owners and pilots, and sharing information about their services and products. Long time sponsors, such as Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, have continued to support the Zenith Homecoming event year after year.
The strong Zenith community of builders and owners continue to make Zenith the number one brand of light sport aircraft in the United States (based on actual FAA registrations). There was an outstanding representation of the many Zenith kit airplanes flying today, with numerous custom configurations (engines, avionics, paint schemes and more!).
We thank all the pilots who flew in with their Zeniths!
Check out the video from YouTube's Kitplane Enthusiast (aka Zenith builder and flyer Mark Pensenstadler) who flew his Zenith CH 750 Cruzer to the event and participated in many of the Homecoming activities: "It's a lot of fun and you meet a lot of great people and you see a lot of great airplanes."
At the Friday evening Zenith banquet, Sebastien Heintz, Zenith Aircraft's president and owner, stated that the Heintz family is in the process of establishing a "Zenith Foundation". The educational non-profit organization (yet to be officially named) will promote sport aviation and kit aircraft building (started by designer Chris Heintz in the late sixties) as an educational endeavor for youth and others that may not typically be able to participate in aviation, as well as preserve the heritage of historical Zenith aircraft (now that the company is already more than 30 years old).
"We wholeheartedly thank everyone who was a part of our 30th anniversary celebrations at the Zenith Homecoming!" stated Zenith president Heintz. "Thanks especially to the Zenith staff and volunteers, and also to the participating vendors and sponsors, and to everyone who visited. And of course a heartfelt thank you to all the Zenith customers who continue to support us year after year!"
Zenith Aircraft Company's factory workshops are popular with sport aviation enthusiasts, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in building their own kit airplane. Participants get to actually start assembling kit parts under the direction and guidance of factory professionals, and "graduate" from the workshop upon completing construction of their own aircraft rudder tail section for one of Zenith Aircraft Company's popular kit aircraft designs, including the high-wing Zenith CH 750 series or the sleek low-wing Zenith CH 650 cruiser.
Cost of the workshop class is just $375.00 (or $425 for the CH 750 Super Duty model) and includes the complete rudder kit for a Zenith aircraft. Additional helpers (spouse, friend or children) are encouraged to attend and can participate at no additional charge. The hands-on workshop makes an excellent getaway for you and your spouse or a friend! Spend a couple of days at the Zenith Aircraft factory and meet with fellow aviation enthusiasts - all while gaining valuable building skills and tips. And don't forget: A demo flight in the Zenith airplane you plan to build is part of the factory workshop experience! Plan now to join us at an upcoming workshop class!
