Wow! The new issue of Robert Parker's wine advocate is out and Zenith Vineyard came up with some amazing scores. The advocate loved the 2008 vintage and we received 91 points for our Estate Pinot noir; 91+ for the Barrel Select Pinot noir; and 90 points for the 2008 Estate Tempranillo! But we were thrilled too that our partner wineries scored big with Zenith Vineyard fruit. Adelsheim Vineyard Zenith Vineyard Pinot scored 91; Biggio-Hamina made two Zenith Pinot noirs - the Biggio-Hamina ZV Pinot was 90 points and the 2008 Biggio-Hamina Cuvee Lucca scored 92 points! Broadley Vineyards scored 91 points on their 2008 Zenith Vineyard Pinot noir; St. Innocent, our partner and winemaker Mark Vlossak scored a 91 with his Zenith Vineyard Pinot and also just earlier this week received a 93 point rating from the Wine Spectator on the same wine! That puts Zenith in the 90-92 point range with eight wines in today's review. We are very proud to offer you these wines and extremely grateful to Mark Vlossak, Dave Paige, Todd Hamina and Morgan Broadley (and all our winemakers) for crafting such beautiful wines from Zenith Vineyard.

2008 Zenith Vineyard Pinot Noir Barrel Select
A Pinot Noir Dry Red Table wine from Eola-Amity Hills , North Willamette Valley, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA,

Rating: 91+
Drink 2013 - 2023
Cost: $40
The 2008 Pinot Noir Barrel Select was aged in 50% new oak for 16 months. It reveals greater density and structure than the Estate bottling as well as a bit more succulence. It will drink nicely from 2013 to 2023. Tim Ramey, owner of Zenith Vineyard, had his first vintage in 2006. He purchased the former O'Connor Vineyard, planted in 1982, built a winery, and hired Mark Vlossak of St. Innocent to make the wines. Not surprisingly given the vintage, the 2008s are a step up from Zenith's excellent 2007s. www.zenithvineyard.com

The 2008 Pinot Noir Estate was aged in 33% new oak for 16 months with yields of only 1.8 tons per acre (low yields being a common theme in this vintage). It offers up an expressive nose of balsam wood, underbrush, rose petal, black cherry, and black raspberry. Round and smooth on the palate, it is filled with savory fruit, plenty of ripe tannin, and has 2-3 years of aging potential. Drink this outstanding value from 2012 to 2020. Tempranillo does not travel particularly well from north-central Spain but Tim Ramey's 2008 Tempranillo Estate is a solid effort. Dark ruby in color with attractive spice and black and blue fruit aromas, on the palate it is firm and structured with plenty of fruit for balance. It is difficult to predict an aging curve for a wine with no track record but it seems likely to drink well for another 5-7 years. Tim Ramey, owner of Zenith Vineyard, had his first vintage in 2006.
