Last month, I filed with the Colorado Secretary of State to challenge incumbent Sen. Laura Woods for the State Senate District 19 seat. I served in this position for one year following the resignation of Sen. Evie Hudak, and I lost in my re-election efforts by a razor-thin margin. I am committed to regaining this seat in 2016, so the citizens of Westminster and Arvada can have a senator who works toward real results, rather than expending energy on useless partisanship.

This election is one of the most competitive legislative races in Colorado. I am contacting you today to request your support and your financial contribution. In my short tenure in the Senate, we accomplished great things together. All eight of my bills that were signed into law received bipartisan support. Our unity allowed us to strengthen the economy, increase protection for seniors and improve our educational system.

My background in municipal government has influenced my attitude and approach on the state level. I am more practical and less partisan. I believe strongly in working through difficult issues and trying to find the middle ground. An individual contribution of $200, $300, or even $400 would send a signal that you are tired of extremist politics and appreciate my moderate, practical approach.

I know firsthand the challenges that many families face in Arvada, Westminster and throughout Colorado. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for the people of Colorado. When elected, this is my to-do list:

• Enhance economic development by fostering small business growth
• Help every child gain access to a world-class education
