Fulton County Achieves Zero-Kill
Fulton County Animal Center is located in the small, northern Indiana, rural community of Rochester. In 2016, just one short year after Janet Showley joined the center as Executive Director, Fulton County reported zero-kill status success!
Showley said of their partnership with SNSI, "A HUGE part of this success was our Barn Cat Program, which we were able to do because of free Community Cat certificates through SNSI."

SNSI's Community Cat program is incredibly strategic, as it prevents thousands of animals from entering shelters each year, enabling them to more quickly get to zero kill. SNSI wishes Rochester continued success in the new year!
Oct. Breaks Spay/Neuter Record; Feb Offers Another Chance
SNSI reached its highest number of spay/neuter surgeries during its October "Treat Your Tails" campaign.  Working with 30 shared-mission vets across Indiana, more than 1059 dogs and cats were fixed We know that every spay/neuter stops the cycle of unwanted litters, and the surgeries performed mean that, together, we prevented tens of thousands of euthanasias.

Our February "Have a Heart" campaign is approaching, where people in need can utilize participating vets to get their pets fixed at a discounted rate. Check our website in mid-January for certificates and a list of participating vets.
Storms Named SNSI's First Executive Director
Cheri Storms, SNSI's First ED
SNSI's Board has named Cheri Storms as its first full-time Executive Director to take the helm in 2017. Cheri began as a volunteer in 2005 by organizing the first Hair Ball fundraising event in her back yard and donating the proceeds to SNSI. Since then, she's increased her involvement, serving on the board, leading fund development, serving as president, and becoming a part-time staff member in early 2015. Under Cheri's leadership, SNSI exceeded 100,000 surgeries, has significantly increased its vet relationships, helped pass beneficial spay-neuter legislation in the Indiana Statehouse, and has taken SNSI from a regional to a truly statewide organization.

Scott Beauchamp, New SNSI Board President
"The SNSI board is excited to have Cheri become Executive Director and has no doubt that she will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of dogs and cats to advocate for lifesaving spay-neuter programs," said SNSI's incoming 2017 board president, Scott Beauchamp. "We are lucky to have such a passionate and knowledgeable champion leading our organization forward!"
Get Organized in 2017
Animal welfare organizations are often overwhelmed by the day-to-day operations, making it difficult to get organized. But those who can get organized are in the best possible position to track and report their efforts - how many animals and people helped through their programs. It's this kind of data that can help an organization make their case for needs, from funders, from elected officials, for volunteer needs, and more.

In 2017, make the resolution to get organized. There are many databases and software programs available, from free programs to very costly ones. Check out this information provided by Petfinder, to compare and contrast programs to help you determine what best meets your organization's needs. There are also programs like Shelter Luv and other programs not yet listed on the Petfinders page.

Have a program that works well for your shelter or organization? Let us know and we'll share it with others in a future issue of our newsletter.

SNSI Around Indiana
In November and December, SNSI shared important spay-neuter information with vet tech students and community members in Fort Wayne and South Bend. While SNSI doesn't have the resources to respond to every request, when possible, we love to meet with groups around the state to learn more about our community partners and build our animal welfare and vet network.
