From the Principal...

This month's character trait to focus on is responsibility.  What a BIG word! No, I'm not talking about it being hard to read as in a "big word" for young readers.  I mean the word carries much weight and requires much attention to its many facets. Here are a few for consideration...

Responsibility includes the word " respond ' which helps us to
  • Consider how we respond to needs of others ("Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me." Jesus),
  • Understand our own needs
  • Deal with uncomfortable circumstances appropriately (" You will never become who you want to be if you keep blaming everyone else for who you are now." John Spence),
  • Respond to correction ("Mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them." Bruce Lee),
  • Respond to other's accomplishments (...being a good winner and a good loser as well.),
  • Respond when needed (You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say. Martin Luther)
  • Guard our behavior ("The time is always right to do what is right." Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Our students are watching others to seek "responsible behavior, attitudes, words, etc." with regard to each other.  They will add others' names to a classroom drawing for a gift for the person drawn each week this month for being "responsible" in their peers' eyes.  More on all of this next week! Until then, I am...

Yours Truly,
Krista Nagy, Principal

Rosetta Stone work will start next week!

Halloween Parade!

Ahoy, Mates!   We hoist the main setting sail to participate in The Anaheim Halloween Parade compete with a "fleet" of ships and a "band" of pirates!  Yes, our theme this year is Pirates! We treasure our children!  We steal hearts for Jesus!  We sail into knowledge and understanding!  (You get the idea!) More details will follow once we hear back from the parade organizers, but since th e parade starts at 6PM, we are likely to need folks to help with last-minute details starting around 4 or 4:30.  The whole parade is over in about 1-1.5 hours. This is just to give you a loose framework for timing. Students will be part of the parade.  Our band students (G4-8) will be "marching" (walking in cadence, formations...this isn't USC!) and playing, joined by our own Jon Johnson, Band Director and his friends/family who comprise the "Pirate Band". More details will follow on decorating strollers, wagons, and "people" in appropriate attire, etc.  What a great way to have fun AND to get word out about our 90th Anniversary year as a school! (Prayers appreciated!)

Amazon Smile is the "philanthropic" arm of Amazon through which the company's customers (us!) earn 0.5% of all shopping.  Yes, that means for every $1000 you spend on Amazon (yes, you know you do!), Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church, receives $5 to be used toward this year's special project...the FRONT SIGN.  This will strengthen our presence in the community as thousands of people travel up and down N. East Street each day.  You can even download an app to your browser (especially the Chrome Browser) to remind you to pop over from the "regular" Amazon to the Amazon Smile site.  You don't even need to sign in again if you set it up that way.  It's a "no-brainer", right?  Let's brighten the front of the campus with great news about our wonderful school!

This is what the app extension for the browser looks like...
