I am in love with Zion!
We have some of the kindest, more generous, and most insightful families I've ever served and served with.  You have such love for your children, yet you seem to extend that love so well to others. It is a joy to be part of this community!

Quite a number of things are coming up which are mentioned in this Lion's Tale .  They will be opportunities to get to know others, to represent our school to others, and to bring blessing to our own children and to others' children.   Please read on!  :-)

  1. National Lutheran Schools Week is an opportunity to celebrate the gift of Christian education through this 2000+ school organization, The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, with which our own school is affiliated.  The week is peppered with events and activities to bring out service which reminds us of our opportunity to bless others, worship together which reminds us of the grace we have from our Savior, and small groups activities which build relationships in our Zion Family.   Please set aside Sunday, January 27 at 10 AM as an opportunity to worship together.  Afterward, have your friends meet you here to take a tour of our school with our Student Council and Ambassadors who will familiarize them with our school during our OPEN HOUSE from 11:30-1:30 that day.  Current Lions will receive $15 for each "eligible and truly prospective family" they bring and with whom they tour.   Have lunch with your chil d on "Carl's Jr. Day".  Trust me, the days of doing so pass all too quickly!  "Next years" are gone before you know it. Help with a Clean Up Day for our neighborhood with Anaheim's Green Birds , a beautification organization which provides training, resources, and tools for safe neighborhood clean up.   Dress as Hero or a Villan with your child.   Develop an outfit representing your child's future career.   Celebrate your favorite holiday one day this week.   Such fun!  Such
  2. The Big Event (formerly known as "the gala" and "the G7 & 8 fundraiser for DC") is being redefined using feedback from "veteran families" as well as new families and others beyond.  We continue to have great food, fun games, and an auction, but the focus is not only G7 & 8 DC Trip, but also (and increasingly over the next years) to include fundraising for ALL field trips and extended class trips.  This addition will help all families to provide excellent learning experiences for our children while reducing the "nickel and dime"* effect each year.  (*paying for trips throughout the year...and not always having the cash for extended trips in certain grades.) These are not new ideas around Zion, but they've not been acted upon until now. This is a good direction to move and generates greater school community, awareness, and funding !  That's great, right?!  Please watch for more information about how to get or leadership roles!
Zion Lutheran School's 90th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion is taking place the weekend of April 5-7 featuring a special event on Saturday, April 6.  A crack team of creative planners has been working on and implementing plans to host hundreds that weekend to celebrate 90 years of ZLS!  I'm hosting a gathering, possibly in the Cafe, for the college-age and younger crowd that Friday, April 5 so I can meet our most recent graduates and, more importantly, they can reconnect in an environment in which they feel most comfortable.  Saturday's event will be a more "upscale" event featuring current and alumni family, staff, friends of Zion for an evening of reminiscing and engagement.  CONNECT  others to this opportunity.  Who do you know who went to Zion?  Help build our social media presence by connecting people to our Facebook page, Instagram feed, or our website:    Special celebration worship on April 7 features student groups, alumni ensembles, and other special guests.  What a blessing to be part of this special year!

Zion Families and Friends,

Zion's Mission is Sharing Christ, Changing Lives!  One of the ways Zion can further its ministry is to extend this to international students.  Zion has an opportunity to host students from China who will attend our School to experience American Culture.

Families will need to host 2 students, have a bed for students, provide breakfast &  dinner and transportation to and from Zion  during the week. SAC is provided at no cost to host families who work. Families will receive $35.00 per night per student to be paid at the end of the visits.

Hosting an international exchange student is an enriching experience for you and your entire family.  By opening your home and heart to a student from overseas, you and your family will gain a new global perspective, many memories, and - quite possibly - a new family member for life!
If you and your family are willing to open yourselves to a new experience and share your home please complete and return the host family registration form below to Yvonne McLellan in the school office.
If you have questions about hosting, please feel free to contact Yvonne McLellan at 715-535-3600 ext. 100 or
