Greetings from the Bishop’s Election Committee

Greetings from the South Carolina Synod Bishop’s Election Committee.

We give thanks for the faithful leadership of Bishop Ginny Aebischer for her nearly eighteen years of leadership to the South Carolina Synod as both Bishop and earlier, as Assistant to the Bishop. This past September, Bishop Aebischer shared that she will not seek reelection. Therefore, a new bishop will be elected at the 2026 South Carolina Synod Assembly.

Learn More & Take Survey

Your responses will help identify shared hopes, challenges, and expectations for the future of our synod, its congregations, and the ELCA as a whole. We invite you to take a few minutes to complete the survey by January 15th and share it with your South Carolina Synod congregation or ministry setting.

From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Friends,

In my family, we’ve already started making our plans for 2026. We’ve booked weeks at camp, looked at vacation schedules, and thought through what needs to be done over the next year. Not much is set in stone, but the conversations have begun. You might be doing the same. As we launch into 2026, I hope that you’ll make time this year to grow closer to God.

Maybe you’ll make more of an effort to worship on Sundays, or you’ll set a timer on your phone so you remember to pray at a certain time each day. Maybe you’ll find a devotional you like or listen to a podcast that helps you grow in faith.

There are a few specific opportunities Zion has for you as we start the new year. We have classes on Sundays at 9—there are options for all ages. On Wednesdays at 6:30, we’ll start reading Baptized We Live, by Daniel Erlander. It’s a simple, deep, illustrated look at the Christian faith from the Lutheran perspective. I hope you’ll come join the conversation.

Council will also be taking up a book study this year. Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger compares the modern church to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. When Lewis and Clark paddled west, they were expecting to find the Northwest Passage, a way to sail easily to the Pacific Ocean. Instead, they found the Rocky Mountains. The ways that they had been exploring and working were great for what they knew, but they had to reconfigure and think differently to journey through what was ahead of them. I’d like to invite you to check out this book as well. It’s engaging, has short chapters, and is available for purchase cheaply through used bookstores online or to borrow on the Hoopla app.

2025 was a good year for Zion. Together, (as of this writing) we have donated nearly $430,000 to the General Fund, over $12,000 and 1287 lbs. of food for our neighbors in need, and replaced the HVAC system in the sanctuary. We have celebrated confirmations, a wedding, baptisms, and new members. Together, we have commended our beloved dead to God. We have collaborated with neighbor congregations and our South Carolina Synod. We even have a member of our congregation as a member of Synod Council. By the grace of God, 2026 will be an amazing year. We have good news to share and a community where we can live in love.

I thank God for you and am excited for the year ahead.

Pastor Emily

Music Notes

Dear Zion Family,

My heart is full of gratitude as I reflect on the past ten years serving as your Music Director and being part of the Zion family. From the very beginning, my family and I were welcomed with open arms into a church that truly lives out its calling. Zion quickly became more than a place of worship for us. It became home.

Over the years, we have made friendships that we will cherish forever, and leaving you is not easy. While the role of a church Music Director can sometimes feel like a behind-the-scenes, thankless position, you never allowed it to feel that way. Your constant encouragement, kindness, and expressions of appreciation made me feel deeply valued and supported. That love meant more than I can ever fully express.

Zion is a special place. You are a church that genuinely Glorifies God, Grows in Faith, and Serves Others with intention and heart. You live your mission, not just in words, but in action. One of the things I will miss most is the way Zion values every voice. Young and old, women and men, children and adults, all are welcomed, encouraged, and celebrated. That kind of inclusivity is rare in today’s church, and it is exactly why Zion is thriving and will continue to thrive.

Please continue to be the church that boldly lives out its mission, that lifts every voice in praise, and that reflects Christ’s love so clearly to one another and to the world. Zion’s music, faith, and spirit will continue to inspire all who walk through its doors.

Thank you for allowing me to serve, to grow, and to be part of something so meaningful. You will always hold a special place in my heart, and you will forever be part of our story.

With love and deep appreciation,

Julie

Zion Technology Ministry

Dear Zion Family,

We’re reaching out with a special opportunity to support our church’s growing technical needs. As we continue to expand our digital outreach and secure our internal systems, the Zion Network plays a vital role in keeping our staff, partners, and mission connected.

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with basic computer and network support—from organizing device logs and updating documentation to helping troubleshoot Wi-Fi and access issues. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young person interested in computers, networking, or IT. No advanced experience required—just a willingness to learn and serve.

Whether you're tech-savvy or simply curious, your help can make a real difference.

We’ll provide guidance, mentorship, and hands-on experience that could spark a lifelong skill or career path.

If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to the church office or speak with us after service.

Let’s build a stronger, more connected Zion—together.
