Thanksgiving Meal Ministry!
It's almost turkey time! As many of you know, for many years Zion has taken over for Meals on Wheels in Lexington County on Thanksgiving Day as no food deliveries are made on Thanksgiving. We have held two fundraisers the past year which have helped get us started, but we will need additional contributions to fund the purchase of the meals again this year. Look for the paper turkeys in the gym or go to Zionlexsc.com/giving to make a contribution. Additionally, we are LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to assist our team (Betsy & Chip Burn, Ron Leaphart and Roscoe Nesmith) that coordinates the meal ministry. We need folks to help deliver the meals, some folks to help load meals into cars on Thanksgiving morning, and some volunteers to assist in coordinating drivers/routes/etc. If you are interested in assisting, please reach out to the Church office or email Betsy at betsyjburn0205@gmail.com.

Dear Saints of Zion,
In this month of thanksgiving, I want to invite you to fast with me. Please keep reading anyway!
Jesus came to bring us life abundant (John 10). We feast with God every week in worship. And yet, we know that the abundance can blind us to our needs. We need deeper relationship with God. We need to remember that many in the world starve while we feast. And in our own community, we know that there will be more hunger than usual while SNAP benefits are unavailable.
Fasting is an ancient practice of the church, and a theme that runs all through the Bible. Fasting focuses our attention on God. It reminds us that, even though we are hungry, we are still alive and supported by God. It reminds us of those who hunger because they have to, not because they choose to. It frees us from one part of our self-concern, even if only for a few hours.
Many people aren’t familiar with fasting. Here’s a few tips.
- Fast from food, if you’re able. If that will damage your health, if you’re a child or teen, or if you’re pregnant, fast from something else. Make it something that will inconvenience you so that you’re reminded to pray.
- Drink water and have a cup of coffee to start your day if you need to.
- When you feel yourself reaching for a snack (or social media, or whatever), remember why you are denying yourself.
- Try not to complain or gloat about it. That’s part of the discipline.
- If you’re new to fasting, consider fasting for a few hours at a time, building up to a full day.
Richard Foster’s book Celebration of Discipline has a fuller description, as does the C.S. Lewis Institute (www.cslewisinstitute.org).
Fasting also frees up some of our resources. The money that you don’t spend on food (or chocolate, beer, shoes, or store-bought coffee) can go to make sure someone else has something in their belly. Please consider an extra donation to Mission Lexington or your favorite feeding charity. You can contribute food or finances through Zion, if it’s Mission Lexington, or directly to the organization.
I’ll be fasting on Fridays. Join me. Let’s be uncomfortable together. Our discomfort will bring us closer to God and help us to love our neighbors.
Prayerfully yours,
Pastor Emily

Dear Zion Family,
We’re reaching out with a special opportunity to support our church’s growing technical needs. As we continue to expand our digital outreach and secure our internal systems, the Zion Network plays a vital role in keeping our staff, partners, and mission connected.
We’re looking for volunteers to assist with basic computer and network support—from organizing device logs and updating documentation to helping troubleshoot Wi-Fi and access issues. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young person interested in computers, networking, or IT. No advanced experience required—just a willingness to learn and serve.
Whether you're tech-savvy or simply curious, your help can make a real difference.
We’ll provide guidance, mentorship, and hands-on experience that could spark a lifelong skill or career path.
If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to the church office or speak with us after service.
Let’s build a stronger, more connected Zion—together.

Solo singers or instrumentalists would be great ANY time of year! If you’d be interested in singing or playing a solo during worship, please let me know!
