Zizzer Soccer Team Raises $2,631 for Ozarks Medical Center Foundation
The West Plains High School Zizzer Soccer Team recently presented the Ozarks Medical Center Foundation with a check for $2,631.
The money was raised during a silent auction in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The funds will go toward the OMC Foundation patient assistance fund and will help those in need with expenses such as travel to get to treatment and medication costs. |
West Plains Elementary Third Grade Classes Make Goody Bags for Area Residents

Before the break the West Plains Elementary third grade classes worked together to collect items for community Christmas project. The classes collected money, candy, lotions, body spray, socks, deodorant, and crackers to make goody bags for the residents at West Vue Nursing home. The pictures I attached are representatives from each of the 6 classes.

Teachers, Staff, & Students of West Plains Schools Sponsored 110 Children for Christmas
For the fourth year, West Plains Schools has sponsored children at Christmas through the Children's Division. The program has grown each year and there were 110 children sponsored by the district this year. Teachers, staff, and students generously donated to help these children have a wonderful holiday. Several clubs at the school also participated. Pictured are some of the students from the WPHS Beta club, who helped delivered the hundreds of packages to the Civic Center for distribution. |
Middle School Students of the Month
These students were selected as the November students of the month by their teachers to represent West Plains Middle School for consistently exhibiting good work habits, regular attendance.
To receive the award students also must display good citizenship/helping both teachers and students without being asked, involvement in extra-curricular activities and also participation in community service.
The students were rewarded with a certificate of achievement to be displayed for the next month.

West Plains Cross Country Team Kicks Off First Half Marathon in February
A run to benefit the Zizzer Cross Country Team will be held on February 16th in West Plains. It's called The 1st Annual Heart of the Ozarks Half Marathon and 10K.
Both races will start at the Southern Hills Shopping Center at 7:30 AM on the 16th.
Race Information:
* Official race t-shirt to all participants.
* Half Marathon finishers will receive a finisher's medal.
* Refreshments provided post race.
* Aid Stations and port-a-pots will be present along the race.
Awards:
* Overall male and female winners in each race, overall team in the half marathon and age division winners will receive awards in each race.
* Half Marathon Partner Challenge: Male/female partners with the fastest total time will win the partner challenge.
Guaranteed shirt sizes for those registering by January 31st.
10K Fee ~ $30.00 before January 31st ~
45.00 after January 31st Half-Marathon Fee ~
$50 before January 31st~
$65 after January 31st
Packet Pick up:
Race packet pick up will take place from 3:00 - 6:00 PM on Friday February 16 in the Southern Hills Shopping Center.

Winter Illness Prevention
Winter months are often associated with colds, respiratory infections, strep throat and flu. To help protect your family from the threats of illness, preventive health measures are recommended. Some measures include:
- A balanced daily diet with six to eight glasses of water or other fluid.
- Eight to ten hours of rest and sleep on a regular schedule.
- Use of tissues to cover the mouth and nose during coughs and sneezes.
- Remember to dispose of used tissues properly.
- Avoiding common use of eating and drinking utensils, toilet articles and towels.
- Encourage thorough hand washing before eating and after use of toilet.
