Zizzer Throwdown Dodgeball Tournament!
Don't miss a fun evening that will take you back to your recess days!!!
The West Plains High School Beta Club is sponsoring its annual "Zizzer ThrowDown" Dodgeball Tournament! Proceeds go to our High School Beta Club chapter and the West Plains Salvation Army. We are excited to have this great event continue this year, and we would love to have district staff and community members on the court!
Team captains or independent players can check out the details at http://zizzers.org/dodgeball Register online or print forms for all of your players and send them to the high school office.
Join the Zizzer ThrowDown on Friday April 08th at 6:00 p.m. at the West Plains Civic Center. Each player pays $5.00 - 8 players on a team ($40.00 per team) - 2 registered alternates can rotate in. Teams MUST be co-ed (at least ONE member from the opposite sex). Players must be of high school age or older to play.

Two WPHS Students Chosen to Attend the Missouri Scholars Academy
West Plains High School Students Laura Grisham and Alexandra McCrosky have been notified that they will be attending the Missouri Scholars Academy June 12-July 2 on the campus of the University of Missouri. The academy reported that the quality of nomination materials was exceptionally high this year. Many thanks to their classroom and extra curricular teachers who helped with the nomination process.

WPMS 5th & 6th Grade Volleyball Takes 1st Place in Tournament
The West Plains Middle School 5th and 6th grade volleyball teams competed in the Willow Springs Tournament on March 26th. The 5th grade played a round robin tournament while the 6th grade teams played 2 matches each against Mountain Grove, Willow Springs and Ava. The Lady Zizzers played a very competitive game against each team to come away with the 1st place victory in the tournament.
Each team has worked hard at practice to improve each day and their skills have progress to a higher level which shown in the tournament. We are very proud of our volleyball teams and congratulations goes out to all of them. The 5th and 6th grade teams were lead to victory with the assistance of Coach Lavada Mann, Paris Witte, Kelli Bowen, Audie Russell, Brooke Portacasco, and Ashley Falkner. Coach Mann would like to thank Jaden Hicks, parents and players for the hard work put into this program.

WPMS Students Do Well in MCTM Regional Mathematics Contest
Several 5th grade students from West Plains Middle School competed in the MCTM regional mathematics contest on Saturday March 26th at Missouri State University. The top 3 places out of all of the schools who competed will represent our area in the state contest being held in April. Fifth grader Hayley Hershenson received first place, and will be representing our school at the state level. Congratulations to the following students who earned ribbons.

The West Plains FFA Needs Your Support!
The West Plains FFA is participating in a National FFA challenge and needs your support! The challenge is reach out to as many people in the agriculture field as possible. If you or somebody you know would like to vote please visit www.FFAChapterChallenge.com.
If the West Plains FFA chapter has enough votes to place in the top ten then they will receive a 1500.00 line of credit with National FFA. If they are the overall winner they will win an all expense paid trip for 6 students to National Convention to Indianapolis, Indiana.

Community Conversation To Be Held At WPHS
April 7, 2011 (Thursday) has been selected as the evening to present information to the parents in the West Plains High School on selected topics of interest. Organizations that will be making presentations include Family Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Security Administration, MSU-WP, and the law firm of Ray and Fisher. Topics will include Medicaid, working with rehabilitation specialist, disability income, TRIO Program, and guardianship. The event will be held in the high school library from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
The purpose of this event is to improve communication between the school, parents, and organizations and to create a smoother transition from school into the community after graduation. Joe W. Davis, instructor at the high school is event coordinator. He may be contacted at 417-372-2963. There will be no charge for the evening. The school received a grant last year to improve transition services and the seminar was one of the approved venues for improving these types of services. |
