Communication and information are vital

Welcome to the premiere issue of Zmail. You’ll see interesting news of note regarding the Biloxi and D’Iberville area, District 115, to be precise, and, of course, you'll get inside news about our campaign. Zmail is something that I will continue as your State Representative, giving you thoughtful updates and insight on issues and events. –Zack

A local favorite returns – one day only!

You see those items on Facebook from time to time: Restaurants you’d like to bring back. Aficionados of local cuisine and culture in Biloxi and D’Iberville will get a chance to step back in time on May 3, when the Dinner Bell re-opens for one day.

The Taranto family -- whose “Pork Chop Wednesday” was a staple at the Dinner Bell during its heyday, from 1990 to 2005 – is hosting a Dinner Bell Pop-up Restaurant for lunch and dinner, at the D’Iberville Community Center, on Lamey Bridge Road next to Warrior Stadium. Dine-in or take-out will be available, and free delivery for orders of five or more.

“We had a special batter that was made just for us,” said Carrie Taranto Chipley, D’Iberville’s Ward 2 councilmember. “Nobody has ever been able to duplicate it. But the thing I liked about Pork Chop Wednesday most is if you wanted to see anybody, you could go to the Dinner Bell on a Wednesday and there they be.”

Spring break this weekend

Expect heavy traffic this weekend with spring break. Plan accordingly. The City of Biloxi will provide traffic updates through its B-alert messaging service. Text BILOXI to 99411. This traffic plan that you see for special events, the miles of traffic cones and barricades on Highway 90, demonstrates the need for the east-west corridor that we’ve heard talked about for so long. We're delighted to see that CTA Director Kevin Coggin brings that issue up every chance he gets. We agree with him.

Coming soon to a corner near you

You’ll be seeing Zack Grady’s smiling mug on a host of roadsides this weekend and through Aug. 8, the day of the Republican primary. The initial lineup has Zack (and the Lighthouse, of course) at five CTA bus shelters: Irish Hill at Porter, Irish Hill at Savarro Park, Pass Road at Rodenburg, Pass Road at the West Biloxi Library, and in D’Iberville on Automall Parkway. Several more high-profile locations are in the offing.

Thank you. Thank you very much

Thank you for making your way through the first Zmail. We'll remain focused on relevance, issues and information, maybe even respectfully snarky at times. Legally, we suppose, we should be clear: Paid for by Friends to Elect Zachary Grady. More to come.
