STOP the Violence Spotlight: Assemble PGH

Each month we highlight one of this year's recipients of the STOP The Violence Grant who are doing violence prevention work in Zone 5 communities. April's spotlight is on Assemble: A Community Space for Arts + Technology, located at 4824 Penn Ave in Garfield.


Assemble's mission is to build confidence through making. It's all about strengthening our creativity muscles to make the future that we want to see: one striving for liberation. Though primarily youth-focused, they also offer programming for adults. All of Assemble's programming use science, tech, engineering, art, and math through a culturally relevant and contextually responsive lens.

Brushton Station Equitable Transit-Oriented Development

At the March Zone 5 Public Safety Council meeting, residents heard from City Planner Adrianna Bowman about the proposed changes to busway transit stops in the Homewood-Brushton area.

Penn Avenue Construction Project


Phase II of the Penn Avenue Streetscape project is now underway in the Garfield/Friendship area. Follow project updates on EngagePGH to get the latest on car and bus detours, road closures, and other updates related to this two-year project.

This resident-lead safety organization meets monthly and works with police and the Department of Public Safety to communicate resident concerns and educate community.
