Baby New Year!

Welcome Moja, our very own Baby New Year! Moja was born on Oct. 20, 2023 to mom, Saba, and dad, Jabulani. Since October, keepers have been keeping a watchful eye on him as he grows and learns more about the space. He is seen frequently climbing on mom and learning how to play. He will be behind-the-scenes for now, but will be out on main habitat when he is big enough!

In case you get questions from guests in the park -- because this is the first cub born in the new Predators of Asia & Africa lion habitat, zookeepers want to be sure Moja is big enough and strong enough to navigate the new space, including the water features. As he continues to grow, staff will determine when a public debut can take place. Temperatures and shifts in weather will also dictate the outdoor schedule.

AZA Accreditation Review Complete

The AZA Accreditation review process is finished! Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and flexibility this week. We couldn't do it without you! We hope to receive official confirmation of our accreditation renewal at the AZA mid-year meeting in April.

Overheard at the Zoo

MOLA:

"It smells like a hotel swimming pool in here!"

Freeze Warning

The temperatures will continue to drop with the possibility of a freeze next week. Be safe when coming into work, bundle up and let security know if they need to check specific locations for heating needs during the inclement weather.

Kudos

A big congratulations to our lion keepers for their big (and cute) secret! They have worked hard to ensure little Moja thrives and continues to grow. Time to celebrate this little one!
