President's Message

Hello Good People

The new Executive Committee is meeting monthly and excited about serving all of you. I will be using my section of the newsletter each month to update you on what the Executive Committee is working on. I also want to invite feedback from any of you regarding the information I report on and/or items that you feel we should be discussing. My goal is to be as inclusive and transparent as possible. My email is saczoo4me@gmail.com.

The Executive Committee continues to support the work of the zoo as it plans for both accreditation and the move to Elk Grove. We are in the very early stages of setting goals for the upcoming year and look forward to sharing those with you in the next month or so. You all can help support the move to Elk Grove by attending the Zoom meeting with Jason that all docents have been invited to.  The invitation is at the top of this newsletter.

Lots of us have been working the side yard near the giraffe barn to help visitors get to know our new Calf. Shani is very protective of her. She is an excellent mom. All of us need to stay outside the barrier- visitors and docents alike.

There has been a small change to Volgistics. If you need to cancel after you have signed up to work, you may now do this at any time prior to your work time.   However, it is very helpful to Ann that you cancel as soon as you know you can't make it (hopefully the day before).  This gives her an early heads up and it also frees up that spot so that another docent can take it.  Please also be considerate when signing up to work. We have noticed that some docents are signing up for a particular spot month(s) in advance.  There may be other docents who would really like to work that time slot at that location- please share.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have a concern, an idea, or need help problem solving how to get in your hours. If something comes up that makes it impossible for you to be at the zoo for an extended length of time, the Leave of Absence form is on Volgistics. You can fill it out and email it to me or give me a call and I will help you.

As vice-president, I had the pleasure of serving as your newsletter editor. Karen Tzikas has now taken this role. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this transition.

Finally, the number of hours that docents put in really impressed our Board of Trustees and Jason.  Well done! If any of the sizes for the jacket recipients are not right, please let me know. We would like to get you the right size. The sooner you let me know the better, so that I can order as a group.

Happy Valentines Day,

Catherine
