Zoom In Painting of Livermore ESL Class Featured at Palo Alto Art Exhibit

Artist GayLynn Ribeira painted a multi-subject portrait, titled Zoom In, representing an online ESL Class using Zoom. The subject of every square is a Livermore Adult Education ESL student. Each student was interviewed by the artist and the background for their square represents part of their life. Some students were not comfortable turning on their cameras, so their squares are black, but they, too, were interviewed.

The painting has been part of a larger exhibit of Ribeira's work, “Connection: A Modern Look,” at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, California. Her exhibit is an immersive exploration of technology’s profound impact on our lives and connections. The exhibit invites individuals to journey through the ever-evolving landscape of human interaction in the digital age.

At the opening night reception, attendees were provided a brochure that highlighted student stories. By being curious about the stories of those around us, we can find common ground and connections. The stories are linked below.

COABE and NCCER Team Up for Survey of Adult Education - Due October 31

Talk box with word Survey at center

The Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) is committed to breaking down silos between business and industry and the field of adult education. They actively look for ways to partner with industry leaders to bring opportunities to their members, always with a special focus on local programs and the learners that they serve.

COABE has joined together with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) to disseminate a survey to garner COABE member's interest in learning more about this industry champion. As a token of appreciation for your time completing this very short survey, all survey participants will be entered into a drawing for four Amazon gift cards for a total of $100 incentives.

CAEP Three-Year Planning Survey for CAEP Members and Leads

The CAEP Three-Year Planning Survey aims to solicit ideas for improvement and feedback from consortium members and leads related to the effectiveness of the 22-25 Three-Year Planning process and preparation for the 25-28 Three-Year Planning process. While the next three-year plan will not be submitted until June 2025, the planning and development of support services start well ahead of that date.

The feedback and recommendations that are gathered from this survey will help guide the CAEP Office as they update and release new guidance and support for the Three-Year Planning process. They will also help identify the technical assistance and professional development that will make this a successful experience. CAEP TAP will work closely with the Chancellor’s Office and California Department of Education, as well as CAEP vendors, to address the feedback and recommendations identified in the survey and to organize additional opportunities for field feedback as we move forward.

Several consortia leads already started this feedback process at the Directors’ Event in mid-September. Many key themes from the listening session are included in the CAEP Three-Year Planning Survey. The leads who participated in the listening session are invited to submit further feedback via this survey. As most consortia members were not in attendance at the Directors’ Event, members are strongly encouraged to submit feedback via the survey.

The CAEP Three-Year Planning Survey will be open from October 5-October 27.
