GARDEN DAYS at JAY

Our bumper crop this year is without doubt zucchini. Join us for another Thursday harvest and get a chance to collect this summer favorite, along with peppers and herbs, too!

Along with the many different kinds of summer squash, pumpkins and gourds we are growing this season, we recently found beautiful 'Long Island Cheese' pumpkins hidden in the mix of pumpkins growing in the veggie beds. Come check them out!

Zucchinis are being harvested every other day at the Jay gardens and will be donated this Thursday to our partners Caritas, in Portchester, through their initiative 'Wheels on Main Street'.

You cannot have enough of this healthy veggie, but if you harvest a large one, you may want to bake it into some zucchini bread, instead.

One of our regular volunteers, Jim Britt, surprised some volunteers last Sunday this a fresh batch of zucchini bread. Delicious!

On a last note, next time you visit the gardens, please consider bringing any small gently used veggie/fruit containers you wish to discard. We can repurpose them! Especially green pulp or cardboard containers can be reused for our donation shipments.

Coming Workshops/ Events in August

Sunday 8/27 Promoting Pollinators (and wildlife) with Native Plants. 10.30a-11.30a

All ages

Workshops offer a unique opportunity to share our mission, interact and educate the public in a garden setting, so if you would like to volunteer during a workshop, please let me know when you sign up.

Reusing small containers and baskets is a sustainable way to save packaging, and they are ideal to sort out sweet from hot peppers from our veggie beds, before they get donated to our partners.
