Library Budget Vote
The New Rochelle Public Library board election and budget vote is Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Polls are open 7:00 am - 9:00 pm. Please note, the Library is NOT a polling site. If you are unsure of your polling place, you may use this online tool, or contact the Clerk and Secretary to the Board of Education at 914-576-4219. Absentee, Early Mail, and Military ballot information may be found here - click and scroll to bottom.

2025-2026 Libary Budget Newsletter
A digital version of the New Rochelle Public Library’s 2025–2026 Budget Newsletter is now available. Inside, you will find an overview of the proposed library budget, along with highlights of select programs and services that reflect NRPL’s commitment to lifelong learning, community engagement, and cultural enrichment. The newsletter also features a message from Library Director Eugenia Schatoff and a “Library at a Glance” section—offering an eye-opening snapshot of the dynamic impact NRPL has on our community throughout the year.

New Rochelle Plays Hollywood: The Men
Join us on Sunday, May 4, 2:00 pm for a screening of The Men. Marlon Brando’s screen debut delivers a powerful performance as a wounded veteran adjusting to life after war. A gripping drama directed by Fred Zinnemann, this early Brando film offers a rare look at his more vulnerable side.

New Rochelle Plays Hollywood is a film series presented by the New Rochelle Public Library. Prior to the screening, film aficionado Les Srager will introduce the history of the film and its creative personnel with a discussion period following the screening. Library Budget Informational Meeting
As we approach the upcoming library budget vote, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, we invite New Rochelle residents to join us on Monday, May 5, 6:30 pm for an informative session with the Library Director and a member(s) of the Library Board of Trustees. This program will focus on the proposed budget for the coming year, how it will affect library services, and what it means for our community.
If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you may view it virtually. Register for the May 5 VIRTUAL meeting here.

Mah Jongg Open Play: Two Options

You may also join us on Thursday afternoons, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater, for 'Open Play Mah Jongg' Our next session is May 8. Join for any or all sessions.
Our hope is to provide a space where players can join together for a weekly game. This program is for experienced players of all levels.

Instructor Patricia Wahl uses a unique body-brain type exercise (based on The Feldenkrais Method) for learning intelligent movement.

NRPL "VROOM" FILM SERIES: "FORD V. FERRARI" (2019)
Join us for our next film in the VROOM film series on Saturday, May 10, 1:30 pm. The remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles, who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.
In this high-speed film series, New Rochelle librarian and film historian Chris Poggiali will introduce and discuss movies centered around auto racing, car culture, and the open road.

Smartphone Photography Secrets
These days, your phone is a camera that’s always with you. In this hands-on workshop on Monday, May 12, 6:00 - 7:45 pm, professional photographer Scott Dengrove will teach tips, tricks and techniques designed to take your smartphone photography to the next level. Participants will learn how to make images stand out through improving composition, tweaking exposure, the basics of good photography, and photography tricks only a smartphone could pull off.

"Our Children, Our Artists" Exhibit Now Open
Come to the Library to view the amazing artworks created by New Rochelle public school children. the City School District of New Rochelle's "Our Children, Our Artists" exhibit is now on view in the Lumen Winter Gallery.
The exhibit showcases the artwork of students from the New Rochelle Public Elementary Schools (May 1 -10), and the New Rochelle Secondary Schools (May 15 - 24.)

May Closings and Delayed Opening
The main branch of the New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library will open at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 9 to accommodate staff training.
The main branch of the New Rochelle Public Library will be closed on Sunday, May 11, 2025 for Mother’s Day. It will also be closed on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26, 2025 for Memorial Day observances. The Huguenot Children’s Library is normally closed on Sundays and will also be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025 for Memorial Day.

The Archive of the New Rochelle Public Library is a unique resource of documents relating to the history of New Rochelle. Our Archive is a repository of historical resources such as institutional and civic records, personal papers, and audiovisual materials. In 2023, the entire Photography Collection of the Archive was properly organized and described by our staff Archivist. This collection of over 15,000 photographic images portrays the city in penetrating detail from early public photography of the 1860s to modern digital photos.

Scholarship Opportunity
The New Rochelle Council of Community Services is pleased to announce the continuation of its annual scholarship, designed to assist a New Rochelle High School/Huguenot Academy student with limited resources to further his or her education, through either college, technical school, or vocational training. Scholarship funds can be utilized for applications, books, registration fees, or any acceptable educational expense.
