Greetings!,
Boo! Happy Halloween!
Halloween seems to be one of those quasi-holidays here in the U.S.. While it is recognized as a holiday here and around the world, no government offices are closed, except in a time like this (government shutdown).
What do you really know about the day we associate with black cats and vampire bats and things that go bump in the night?
Many people believe that Halloween originates from an old Druid festival called Samhain. Others associate it with Christian festival of All-Hallowed-Eve and the following All-Saints Day. Either way, according to Henry Ansgar Kelly, a research professor specializing in medieval and renaissance studies at UCLA, Irish immigrants in the mid-19th century brought their customs and traditions with them - including All-Saints Day. This is the path most believe led to the traditions we have today.
If you want more of a history, The Today Show published a story which will go into greater detail. You can read this here.
However, instead of boring you with facts, I thought it might be more fun to see what trivia you know about this holiday. Classicpop.com has a list of 103 trivia questions. I will publish the first 10 here. Visit the link above to see them all.
