Greetings!,
Do you have savings goals? Maybe you have a certain level of investments you are trying to reach by a certain date.
For many years, the goal was to be a millionaire. I can remember friends talking about if they could only have a million dollars how much better their life would be. As we have stated in past blogs, "A million dollars just ain't what it used to be."
We have also included in the past, calculators to show how much you need to save and at what rate of return to retire how you want (Saving For Retirement), what inflation can do to money (Inflation Calculator), and ideas about safe withdrawal rates (Systematic Withdrawals).
Accordinig to a Harris Poll from August 2024, today, you might not have enough to maintain your lifestyle with “only” a million dollars in your portfolio. Meanwhile, 60% of Americans say that becoming a billionaire they’re aiming for, with millennials leading the charge at 73%.
On top of that, the millionaire club isn’t exclusive anymore. Globally, more than 80 million individuals crossed the $1MM threshold by early 2025, which is a four-fold jump since 2000. In fact, the U.S. added approximately 379,000 new millionaires last year, alone ( ElectroIQ, July 25, 2025).
According to the Wall Street Journal in a September 2, 2025 article, the billionaire population in the U.S. increased from 927 in 2020 to 1,135 in 2024, collectively worth around $5.7 trillion, and just three men – Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg – account for nearly $1 trillion, which represents almost one-sixth of all U.S. billionaire wealth.
What will happen when a common billionaire is not enough? Meet the new apex… there are now 24 ‘Super-billionaires’ – individuals worth $50 billion or more – who collectively control 16% of all billionaire wealth (The Wall Street Journal, February 25, 2025).
I know these amoiunts can be mind numbing. If you don't want to work the calculators yourself, or want us to walk through these or other important numbers with you, please give us a call.
As always, thanks for reading.
