Dr. Bryan McComb will be our guest speaker
Bryan will first highlight the role and responsibilities of a biostatistician within the clinical trial lifecycle and then discuss the current foundation around clinical trials, from the more traditional designs to modern adaptive clinical trial designs. He will additionally discuss some of the current problems within the research landscape, emphasizing the dissemination of trial results and publication biases.
Bryan McComb is a biostatistician who recently graduated from NYU with his doctorate. He is currently working at Pfizer within the Rare Disease Statistics group as Manager Biostatistics. Bryan recently defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled “Heterogeneity in Multiple Parallel, Single-Arm Trials: Efficiencies and Limitations in the Design and Analysis of Basket Trials.” Bryan’s research areas include Basket Trials, Sequential clinical trials, adaptive designs, heterogeneity, biomarkers, and oncology.

God in Our Relationships: Spirituality between People from the Teachings of Martin Buber
Martin Buber’s I-Thou relationship offers a widely available and often overlooked spiritual opportunity.  Rabbi Ross will draw from his forthcoming book, A Year with Martin Buber: Wisdom on the Weekly Torah Portion for the Daily Inspiration Series of the Jewish Publication Society, and take examples from the give-and-take of daily life, to illustrate Buber’s I-Thou clearly and concisely.
Religion, Politics and Sex: A Conversation for Polite Company
Judaism has a long history of open discussion about delicate topics, a tradition of going all the way back to the Torah. Rabbi Ross will discuss Jewish teachings supporting access to birth control, keeping abortion safe and legal, extending legal rights and responsibilities of marriage to same-gender couples and more. He will draw from his work as director of Concerned Clergy for Choice for Family Planning Advocates of New York State and Planned Parenthood, as well as from his book, All Politics Is Religious: Speaking Faith to the Media, Policy Makers and Community (Skylight Paths) to provide a positive Jewish approach to the public debate.
