The world needs you and your creativity, now and every day, so please keep making art, seeking out opportunities and submitting those applications. Below is a list of calls, competitions, auditions, etc.

Ixion is holding auditions for their May production, “Let’s Eat!" on April 10, 2022, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Capitol Area District Library Downtown Auditorium, 401 S. Capitol Ave. Lansing, Michigan. Auditions will be cold reads from the scripts.

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, invites submissions to its annual juried "Birds in Art" exhibition. Artists working in all mediums other than photography can submit original, 2D and 3D artworks interpreting birds and related subject matter for jury consideration. Deadline: April 15, 2022. 

The Toledo Zoo in Toledo, Ohio, is seeking creative artists and skilled makers to take part in their two-day art fair, "Wild about Art." Accepted mediums include ceramics, drawing, painting, glass, jewelry, mixed media, metal working, photography, printmaking/graphics, sculpture, textiles and wood. Deadline: April 25, 2022.

The Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce invites submissions from artists and fine crafters in all media and categories for the Brighton Art and Music Festival held in Brighton, Michigan. Deadline: May 1, 2022.

LowellArts is seeking proposals for its 2023/2024 exhibitions.
Artists, curators, artist groups and instructors are encouraged to submit a proposal for an exhibition at LowellArts between the winter of 2023 and fall of 2024. Approximately 6-8 exhibitions slots are available. Deadline: May 1, 2022.

The Kenosha Community Foundation Arts Fund in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is seeking outdoor sculptures for their "2022-2024 Sculpture Walk - HarborPark Exhibition," on the grounds of HarborPark area located on Lake Michigan. Installation of works is anticipated for September 2022. Special consideration will be given to life size and/or monumental sculptures. No application fee. Deadline: May 2, 2022.

Feminist Spaces invites students, faculty, and independent scholars to submit academic papers, creative writing and artistic pieces that address topics in feminist, gender, sexuality or women’s studies. Articles may originate or enter into dialogue with current feminist discourse or present historical research. Deadline: May 6, 2022.

The Hopper Prize is accepting entries for their spring 2022 artist grants.
They are offering six individual artist grants in the amount of $1,000 (4) and $3,500 (2) awarded through an open call art competition juried by leading contemporary curators. The Hopper Prize was established to increase recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. Deadline: May 17, 2022.

The Dairy Barn Arts Center with support from Ohio University School of Visual Communication seeks entries for the third biennial international exhibition, "WideOpen: Excellence in Photography." This exhibition has featured outstanding work by established, emerging and amateur photographers. Each accepted photo will be featured in the "WideOpen: Excellence in Photography" 2022 exhibition catalog. Deadline: June 30, 2022.

Arts Council Greater Lansing presents an Open Group Grant Consultation. This month's chat will be held at Foster Coffee Company in East Lansing. Drop in for casual conversation regarding grants and share your creative ideas with Arts Council membership & program manager, Taylor Haslett. She can provide grant opportunity info and assist you in planning your grant applications. Bring some friends! Virtual option via Zoom is also available. Arts Council Greater Lansing presents the Ingham County Hotel/Motel Funds for Arts & Tourism Grant Workshop. Join membership & program manager Taylor Haslett who will introduce the 2022 Ingham County Hotel/ Motel Grant, go over changes, guidelines, applications and deadlines and open the floor for Q&A from attendees. Event will be held at MICA Gallery, 1210 Turner St., Old Town. Virtual option via Zoom is also available. Date & Time: April 22, 2022, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Arts Council of Greater Lansing presents its April smARTS workshop, "Elevating Stories in the Fresh Coast State." In this workshop, marketing and communications professional Josh Holliday will detail his work as founder and editor of the statewide digital storytelling platform, "Fresh Perspective." Come learn about this unique publication that shares stories of the artists, creatives and innovators who are making Michigan a vibrant and exciting place and find out how you or your organization can be featured. Americans for the Arts and the Arts Action Fund have released their "Why the Arts Matter Fact Sheets" for all 50 states and the nation. Make sure to download your copy and share it with everyone who needs to know! Excerpt: "U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reports that the arts and culture sector contributed $13.4 billion to Michigan's economy in 2020, representing 2.6 percent of the state's GDP, 106,003 jobs, and total compensation of $7.8 billion." The report also reveals that in 2020, Michigan arts and culture ranked third among the comparison sectors. Have a look.

earth week to inspire your parks!

On April 1, 2022, the Placemaker Earth Challenge cohort started the Earth Day count down by kicking off this year’s initiative with placemakers from around the world. Check out the recording of the session to learn more about this year’s theme, see previous projects and draw inspiration. Then join along over the next two weeks in April to explore ideas and potentials to connect with local communities and authorities through area urban parks.

On Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 12 p.m. EDT, gather to share and reflect upon the ideas you have. Special guests will offer perspectives and support for further development of aspirations, experiments and provocations. Everybody is welcome to join in this ‘Inspire the Park’ journey. Learn more.
