“A RECORD OF RECLAMATION, RELEASE, AND LONG-DELAYED SELF-DEFINITION. ‘MERCURIAL’ IS THE SOUND OF YANG FINALLY CATCHING UP WITH HIMSELF - REACHING BACK THROUGH THE MEMORIES AND CONFLICTS THAT SHAPED HIM, THEN CARRYING FORWARD AS AN ARTIST NEWLY FREE TO DECIDE WHO HE WANTS TO BE”

Today, alt-pop rising star chandol unveiled the mini tour documentary for his most recent national tour, Mercurial. The documentary premiered exclusively on Ones To Watch’s website, featuring an exclusive interview with chandol’s Charley Yang. Capturing the band’s week-long cross country trip during Yang’s first tour as chandol, the documentary was edited by creative director Kevin Lien & Yang himself. You can watch the documentary now on Ones To Watch’s website here or on chandol’s YouTube channel after Sunday, September 27.
chandol’s debut record, Mercurial finds the artist wandering inside his own memory palace, navigating multiple past lives; while in many ways, the tour saw him making peace with who he is today by playing the record to fans who have been patiently anticipating his return to music. A debut record portraying the kaleidoscope of young adult life with sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more, Mercurial is mixed by Jeremie Inhaber (Vampire Weekend) and features live drum credits from the legendary Aaron Sterling (Harry Styles, Lana Del Rey, Lizzie McAlpine). Charley Yang serves as the main songwriter of Mercurial, making this the young songwriter’s most personal project to date. - Listen here
On the release of chandol’s debut album, Yang reflected: “‘Mercurial’ is a collection of songs I wrote to talk about who I am and where I come from. For this project, I've kept both the songwriting and production of the music as intimate as possible, with minimal outside interference and influence. There was a lot of experimentation and discomfort in getting so vulnerable, but it was all necessary. I've felt like a lot of my previous work misrepresents the kind of artist I want to be, so it was very refreshing to be able to work on something so honest. This project was something I’ve wanted to create for so long, and finally, I’ve reached a point where I can properly execute it.”
