I don't know why I blurt things out to strangers, but I do. It's the Italian "frankness" in me - it can easily get loose. I was grocery shopping in Graul's Market around Christmas, and noticed a cute elderly man steering his cart my way.
As he passed by, I blurted out, "You're so cute!" (Well, he was! I couldn't help myself - why shouldn't I tell him? I could tell he was a very good-looking younger man.)
He replied, "Well, thank you! I do not hear that much. Thank you very much."
We chatted a few more lines of friendliness ... and our carts rolled on.
What a treasure. I just wanted to hug him.
Snippeteers, tell people what nice things you are thinking as you notice them. Stranger or acquaintance. Maybe they haven't heard a compliment for a while - or at all.
Make their day.
We've all heard someone tell us that before, "You've made my day!" Isn't that simply splendid to hear? (It actually makes MY day when I hear it.)
Some days, I text a friend or cousin who is focusing with such terrific care on a loved one, "In case anyone hasn't told you today, you are a great daughter." (or sister, wife, aunt, etc.) Probably no one HAS told them that on that day, so I may as well be the first, eh?
I guess the high school cheerleader in me has never abated, because I do like to cheer people.
People need cheering. They certainly do. Cheering on ... cheering up ... cheering praises ... cheers in general! A shout of encouragement, approval, congratulations ... words that give joy or gladness, encouragement or comfort.
So get out your pom-poms and do some rah-rah'ing! Cheering on others is easy, fun, and rewarding.
