Collaborative Quality Control
Calflora data contributors and users work collaboratively to ensure the highest quality information about California's wild plants. Calflora observation contributors maintain control over the stated plant name, location, and observation details.
If you question a plant ID or location, suggest corrections by commenting on the record. After you comment on a record:

  1. The observer will receive an email containing your feedback.
  2. If the observer does not acknowledge the comment within seven days, the record will be flagged as questionable.
  3. Questionable records do not appear in Calflora default searches.

What about old plant names?
If a record is added to the Calflora Database as, e.g., Mimulus pulchellus instead of Diplacus pulchellus, no comment is needed. Calflora crosswalks old and new names to resolve them, e.g., here at the Diplacus pulchellus taxon report page.

You don't need to update plant names before adding surveys or records to the database; Calflora will crosswalk any old names for you -- and check your spelling!

More about Calflora's Commenting System
To include questionable records in your query, go to Observation Search and, under more criteria, check the box to "include questionable records."

When the observer is not known, not responsive, or deceased, comments help flag any erroneous records. Here's more about how the commenting system works.
