STAYING CONNECTED
From The Thrift Shop
Tis the season for Christmas treasures for purchase at the Thrift Shop. Every year the Thrift Shop has unique Christmas items for sale. This year there are beautiful Nativity displays. These treasures are from around the world-Ireland, US, China, German and other places. The Nativity displays are all beautifully handcrafted from porcelain, metal, wood, and other media. Come and see the Christmas items for sale and tell others who maybe collectors that it is time to come, see, and buy many special Christmas treasures.
Sharing Your Nativity Scene
Whether you purchase a nativity scene from the Thrift Shop, or already have one, once you’ve set up your nativity scene, please take a picture and send it to us at [email protected] so we can include it in our December 19th online worship service. Please submit your photo by Wednesday, December 15th.
White Gifts
Our annual White Gifts program has been impacted by COVID-19, but we are determined to find a way to provide much-needed Christmas gifts for those in our community who are in need this holiday season. Instead of purchasing and wrapping gifts, congregation members are invited to donate by cash or check. Then, our savvy White Gifts shoppers will shop specifically to meet the needs shared by the social service agencies with which we partner. Here is how YOU can participate:

Between now and December 12, put your monetary donation into an envelope and drop it off at our in-person service or mail it to Central Union Church:

Central Union Church - Accounting Office
1660 S. Beretania Street
Honolulu, Hawaii 96826

Be sure to put “White Gifts” in the memo line! Please note: we will be unable to accept gift items this year.

Please help us bless them in this way and continue our long-held White Gifts tradition in this time of unprecedented need!

If you have questions, please contact Becky Woodland at [email protected].
Holiday Toiletry Drive
Help us bless our island community by donating toiletries now through December 12! Nate Shea, a senior at Punahou and an organizer of our CUW food distribution, would like to partner with our church by collecting simple items we take for granted. We will be collecting unopened containers of shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and other essential items, like unopened packages of toothbrushes and underwear. These items will be distributed to those in need.

Donation boxes will be available at our in-person worship services, as well as in the church office during office hours (9am to 3:30pm). We look forward to partnering with Nate and his family as they extend God’s love to the larger community!
Panel of Legislators on Cash Bail Reform
December 1st, 2021 , 6:00pm–7:30pm HST

Join Faith Action for the second panel on cash bail reform in Hawai'i’s criminal justice system.
Senator Karl Rhoads, Representative Sonny Ganadan, and Representative Scot Matayoshi will discuss bills that address inequities in our justice system caused by cash bail.
Studies show that inequities of the cash bail system in Hawai’i fall disproportionately on Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and low income people who are unable to afford bail. Thus they are kept in jail, away from jobs and families, as they await a court date which can take months. That is not the case for those who can post bail.
Register at https://tinyurl.com/bailreformHI, ask your questions, and find out how to get involved in the next legislative session.
This December panel follows the first held in October which featured Sara Gaspar, Michael Gaspar, Kano’eauna’inoa "Na’i" Awo, and Candy Matautia who shared their personal stories about how cash bail laws impacted them and their communities when they were previously incarcerated. If you missed the Oct. panel you can view a recording here: https://fb.watch/91EzYql3qK/

Silence is God’s first language, everything else is a poor translation.
So, to hear God in God’s language one has to enter into silence too.
