STAYING CONNECTED
Learning Tree Webinar: Bylaws
The Council invites and encourages you to attend a Learning Tree Webinar where the Bylaws Committee will explain the changes it is proposing to the Bylaws of Central Union Church. As our governing document, the Bylaws need periodic review and revision not only to remain in compliance with Hawaii law but also to ensure an updated and flexible governance structure that allows the Church to operate in a way that is responsive to the challenges of our time.
Please mark your calendars to attend this important Learning Tree Webinar:

Sunday, February 14, following worship

Webinar ID: 898 2891 0776

Following the Webinar, the Bylaws will be made available to the congregation and the congregation will have a 2-week review and comment period during which the Bylaws Committee welcomes all comments and questions from the congregation.
This Wednesday, February 17th, CUC will be offering a Drive-Thru Imposition of Ashes event from 9:00 to 9:30 am and from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Taizé music will stream through your car radio and you will be asked to pause in your car at ‘stations’ to meditate, center yourself, and to pray before receiving ashes.

All participants are required to wear a mask.
Virtual Wednesday Night Soup Supper
Every Wednesday on Zoom, from February 24 to March 24, 6-7:30 pm

Come and meet Jesus through the eyes of those who knew him best! Each Wednesday during Lent, join Pastor Brandon and Pastor Mary on Zoom to watch The Chosen, the first ever multi-season show about the life of Jesus. The Chosen is groundbreaking; it is an interdenominational, crowd-funded adaptation of the life of Christ, created by a team of ministers, rabbis, film producers, and biblical scholars. We are excited to use this amazing new resource to grow in our faith together!

Each week in Lent, you are invited to bring your dinner and join us on Zoom, where we will watch one episode together. Then, we will break into small groups and spend time discussing, sharing, and praying. May God be at work in our hearts this Lenten season!

If you are interested in attending, please sign up with Pastor Mary at [email protected].
Faith Action Says ‘Aloha’ to Staff

We say ‘farewell’ to Soo San Schake who leaves us after serving as organizing assistant and assistant director for Faith Action since 2018. A newly wed, she now leaves for Japan to join her husband where he has a job contract for three to five years. While there, she plans to teach English and drink in the beauty and culture of Japan. We appreciate Soo’s talents and devotion to Faith Action which has helped to strengthen our organization. She launched our Environmental Justice Task Force which attracts new and dynamic members.

We say ‘welcome’ to Cassie Chee who has just joined Faith Action to be our community organizer. She has roots on the mainland and Hawaii. She will focus on the ongoing work of strengthening relationships within Faith Action and increasing our membership in numbers and effectiveness in pursuing equity for our communities. Cassie is currently working towards a Master of Divinity degree. We look forward to working with Cassie who brings a strong Justice perspective.

Carbon Cashback for the Environment and Residents
Faith Action for Community Equity had an “Island Voices” article about the Carbon Cashback bill printed in the Star-Advertiser on Feb. 7. Carbon Cashback would assess a fee on fossil fuels and give back the revenue from the fee to the people of Hawaii in equal shares. The article was authored by Faith Action’s Environmental Justice Task Force. Click here to read the article.
