Worship on the Great Lawn with Pastor Mary, Brandon, and David!

Friends, let us come together (at a safe distance) for worship this  Sunday, June 28th  on the  Great Lawn . This in-person worship service marks another step forward in reopening the campus. Here are the details
  1. The service will begin at 5:30pm and will last approximately 30 minutes.
  2. Circles will be painted 6 feet apart on the Great Lawn and each household is asked to remain in their circle during the service.
  3. This is a family event and we encourage children to come worship with their families.
  4. We invite you to bring communion elements from home, as well as a blanket, chairs, water, or other elements that make your Lawn Circle more conducive for worship.
  5. While there will be music during the service, as a health and safety precaution we are asking that participants do not sing (although you can lip-sync to your heart's content!).
  6. Those driving to the church will be able to park in the Thrift Shop and Punahou parking lots.
  7. Ushers will guide you to available Lawn Circles.
  8. Please remember to wear your mask!

Aloha Rivers Family Drive-Through

July 5 will be Pastor David’s last Sunday with Central Union Church. It’s always difficult to say good-bye and the time of COVID presents its own special challenges. What to do? – a parade to celebrate, honor and thank them for their many gifts to CUC seemed to fit the bill.

Members of Central Union Church are invited to drive-through between 5:00 and 6:30 pm on Sunday, July 5 to wish the Rivers ohana aloha. We want to make it festive and celebratory, while maintaining safe social-distancing guidelines.

Make a statement with your car – streamers, signs, balloons. Drop a card.  Just don’t leave your vehicle!  Entrance and exit will be routed through the Punahou Street parking lot. There will be signage and guides to direct traffic flow. The Rivers family will be stationed on the sanctuary steps to receive your farewell wishes.

Our congregation is so grateful to have been blessed with Pastor David’s leadership, the past 6 years, and the joy that it has been to have Kate, Sam, Jane and Will as part of the life of our congregation. They will be greatly missed. On Sunday, July 5 you can let them know how much.

Reopening Liaisons
Nathan Wong and Bruce Luxton will be serving as the Council’s liaisons on our phased plan of reopening. They will be the point persons that the Congregation can go to with ideas, questions or suggestions. In addition, they will work with staff to determine implementation strategies and assist in recruitment of volunteers that may be needed for specific tasks.
Bruce or Nathan may be contacted at  reopen@centralunionchurch.org . We are grateful for their willingness to step forward and help lead this effort. Mahalo Bruce and Nathan!

Mindful Movement with Bamboo Sticks
NOW ONLINE every Wednesday 5:00 - 6:15 PM
Taught by Marion Lyman-Mersereau.  Come move your body and settle your mind with the bamboo stick practice! The Qigong routine with bamboo sticks was developed by an elderly Zen master to maintain his suppleness. With practice of this routine, one can maintain strength, balance, and breath control. It incorporates mindfulness practice as we become more aware of each movement and how it affects our breath and our bodies. You’ll need a 6ʻ stick of some variety - ideally bamboo and if you’re short a broom would do or a hiking pole. A 6ʻ lightweight smooth stick is best.
