Wednesdays with ‘Serving Aloha’
“You have fought through the launch to become providers, not only of food, but also volunteer opportunities for church members and others as part of their spiritual journey, and are providing inspiration to the whole community. I would not be surprised if your efforts inspire others to form their own initiatives. One drop can lead to thousands of ripples.”
CUC member Greg Kim shared those thoughts with the CUC Serving Aloha planning committee at the end of another Wednesday food distribution.
The first distribution on Oct. 28 served 300+ guests, a number repeated at the second and third distributions. Thirty to 35 volunteers direct traffic, pack bags with food, sign in guests, distribute food packages, and clean up at each Wednesday distribution. Every guest is greeted warmly; each volunteer receives a sincere “thank you” in return.
We thank you, our CUC members, who spend time, energy, and care each Wednesday with “Serving Aloha.” God is present where you are.
With community partners (Aloha Harvest, Hawaii Food Bank, Sysco/Food & Service, Feeding America, and Help Is On the Way), CUC will continue this mission through December and beyond, as the need persists. If you have two or more hours to share on Wednesdays between 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM , we invite you to come to join us as often as you can. NOTE: We follow strict COVID safety guidelines at all times by checking volunteer’s temperature, providing gloves and masks, and distancing. All are welcome to join us in our effort to serve the community. We appreciate any extra pair of hands for this ministry even if the volunteer cannot stay for the entire duration of the time slot.
