The Rev. Brandon Duran and The Rev. Mary Herbig

Livestream at 10 AM
Passcode: 037417

Aloha friends! We will be postponing this Sunday's planned in-person worship service.  The recent, and drastic spike in case counts along with the Lieutenant Governor's recommendation give pause.  Out of an abundance of care for you and for our wider community we will postpone the first in-person service of 2021 until January 17th at 9:00am. We miss worshipping in-person and we long for the day when we can stand together. However, we also believe in leading by example and by exercising patience for another week we are responding to the high call of compassion. In place of an in-person service, Pastor Brandon will be offering a simple and special "Drive Thru Communion" from the front steps of the sanctuary on this Sunday, January 10th. Starting at 9:00am, until 9:45am, you are invited to drive or walk by the sanctuary to share in the sacrament of communion. We invite you to bring bread and a cup. Pastor Brandon will supply the juice (and he will have prepackaged elements for the bread just in case). We hope to see you at the "Drive-Thru Communion" at 9:00am or at the regularly scheduled service online at 10:00am. Peace and health be with you friends!

STAYING CONNECTED
This Sunday we launch our 2021 Stewardship Campaign, "All Things New!" This year's campaign will be unlike any other in recent memory and we lead us on a journey of faith formation, generosity, and community. Learn more about the campaign in worship this Sunday, in the January Spire, or by contacting the Stewardship Campaign Chair, Bruce Luxton (council@centralunionchurch.org).
Notice of the Annual Budget Meeting
On January 31st we will gather for our Annual Budget meeting via a Zoom webinar. Together we will reflect on the financial challenges we've faced as a church in the last year. Together we will adopt a plan to move forward with faith. The difficulties of this last year have revealed the strength we have as the body of Christ when we work together. Central Union's best moments and ministries in 2020 were all marked by collaboration and by grace. Let us continue to live into this deep truth by coming together at the start of 2021 at our Annual Budget meeting. This gathering will be about more than line items and charts, it will be about how we will live into the calling God has given us.

We will be sending the meeting notice along with the budget tomorrow. Please make your attendance a priority as we require a quorum of 100 members to conduct our church’s business. Mark your calendars now for this very important meeting in the life of our church.

All Things New Prayer Vigil
As we enter into a new year, we invite you to join us in praying for our church and its ministries. On Friday, January 15, we will hold a 12-hour virtual prayer vigil, where our congregation will come together to pray for God’s vision of grace and generosity to take root anew at Central Union. Each hour will be divided up into 15-minute blocks and we are asking you to sign up for one block to pray. We will provide you with guided prayers and spiritual practices that you may use, or you can pray as the Spirit leads you. Together, as a community, we will cover all 12 hours in prayer.

If you have questions or if you would like to commit to pray for a 15-minute block please email Cayanna Herrera at Cayanna-herrera@centralunionchurch.org. May God, who makes all things new, be at work among us!
Meet Faith Action’s New Officers for 2021-2023

Faith Action’s new officers for 2021-23 were installed on Dec. 19, 2020 at the Delegated Council meeting. They are:
President: Ikaika Hussey;
VP Clergy: Rev. Jessica Kawamura;
VP Laity: Danicole Ramos;
Secretary: Kristen Young; and
Treasurer: Jon Davidann.

They and the delegation read together the Faith Action Covenant to refresh everyone's commitment to Faith Action’s values and mission. A key statement of the Covenant reads:
“As a people of hope who share values arising from our religious convictions, we celebrate the historical teachings of our heritages as they show us the way of justice and compassion, and set us to care for the needs of all people.”
