Join Our Virtual Aloha Lanai
We are excited to continue gathering after online worship for Virtual Aloha Lanai! Following worship, you will be invited to join with others who have typically attended the same pre-COVID worship service. This week, we have added an additional Aloha Lanai gathering for those who have joined us since we have been worshipping online, so that we can get to know you! Here’s how it will work:

1. After the announcements on Sunday, close Facebook or Zoom.
2. Reopen this email and click on one of the Zoom links below. If you would like people to hear you, be sure to use a device that has a camera and a speaker – smart phones, iPads, and laptops usually come with these.
3. When prompted, click “Start video” and “Join audio”
4. Once you are in the meeting, a host will greet you and provide more instructions!

We look forward to seeing you all! May we continue to show grace to one another as we all adjust to this new model. “See” you Sunday!

CUC Addresses Food Insecurity
Food insecurity describes a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life.1  Food insecurity goes beyond simply hunger, but points to deeper underlying factors that can lead to risk of hunger. It’s when our kupuna have to make decisions between meals or medicines. It’s when our keiki, who normally find access to a healthy meal at school, have to do distance learning on an empty stomach. The Covid-19 pandemic has created what for many was a state of fragile existence into full crisis subsistence.

According to the Hawaii Foodbank, “Since the onset of the pandemic, food insecurity in Hawaii has grown by more than 60% representing the fifth highest percentage increase in the United States. Now, nearly a quarter of a million Hawaii residents are currently struggling with hunger. Among them are out-of-work parents, isolated kupuna and 1 in 4 keiki.”2

Central Union is working to address this pressing need and live in to our call to “feed the hungry”. Working in partnership with Help is on the Way, we are developing further ways to make sure that those who are in need in our community are able to receive help. Details to come. If you would like to volunteer on this effort, please contact Karl Hedberg at khedberghawaii@gmail.com.
