MSA Highlights
The MSA team continues to be hard at work over the summer break. Below are a few highlights on what we're focused on:

  • MSA is very active on the Senate side to adopt the $18 million increase in MSAP funding that passed the House. If passed, this will increase the federal funding level to $125 million for FY20 which – based on records to date – would be the largest single-year increase for the grant program in more than a decade. Now is the perfect time to ask your Senator to support this funding. Read this alert to learn more.

  • Also through our work on the Hill, we have been working with the National Coalition for School Diversity to address a decades-old law. This hold-over from an earlier era prohibited schools from using federal funds for transportation purposes. When Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) passed a few years ago, Congress approved an exception for MSAP recipients (2016 grantees and later). However, we are learning that these grantees are still faced with the inability to access federal funds when the grant ends. MSA is working to eliminate the prohibition entirely, so that any school – magnet or otherwise – can access federal funds for transportation.

  • Last, we've begun our strategic planning process with a focus on goals and activities to guide us for the next three years.
