CONGRESSIONAL ALERT
The House Appropriations Committee is currently working to develop a budget in response to the Trump Administration’s proposal. While the White House Administration keeps funding for MSAP flat at $107 million, we are supporting an increase in the House's budget.

Encourage your House Members to support an increase in MSAP funding by signing onto the Dear Colleague letter being circulated by Congressman Joe Courtney of Connecticut to the Chair and to the Ranking Member of the House Education Appropriations Subcommittee. The more Members of Congress that sign the Dear Colleague letter, the more helpful it will be for our efforts behind the scenes to point out the reasons for an increase.

Why become a nationally certified magnet school? When you apply for Certification, you are looking at your school through the "lens of excellence." Certified schools are rated as one of the "best of the best" magnet schools in the nation - giving you the opportunity to market your school and seek support in new ways.

The certification application cost is $1395 per school. Cohort V will onboard in August of 2019 and run through June of 2020.

Learn more about the Certification process and have your questions answered during our Certification Informational Webinar  April 17, 2019 at 1pm ET Click here to register for the webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing details on how to join.

We look forward to assisting you in this process!
IN THE NEWS
Congratulations to Bridgeport, Conn. Magnet School student, Janelle Newell!

From the Hartford Courant:

After acing words like shogun, ergonomic and babushka, 12-year-old Janelle Newell had it all on the line Saturday with one final spelling puzzle.

She nailed the word — “Spencerian” — and her only remaining competitor, Rod Chittem, stumbled on “forbearance.” And so after 17 rounds of competition, Janelle was declared the winner of the Connecticut Spelling Bee.

“I feel amazing, but I never thought I would win,” Janelle said after defeating 41 other young students from across the state.
