Sun Jan 10, 10:00am ~ “Some Philosophy about Being Good”
~ Rev. Meredith Garmon
Every so often I like to dust off my philosopher chops, mix a few metaphors, and see what might be said. This time, a look at how philosophers think about the project of being good. A certain pop-culture reference or two is likely.

PreK and Older Children: Using the asynchronous, online UU Parents of Preschoolers (POP) curriculum.
K-4th Grade Class: Children continue discussing the proposed 8th Principle and brainstorm wording for a CUUC children’s version of the 8th Principle.
5th-12th Grade Classes: Youth will brainstorm aspects of healthy relationships and building positive self-esteem, and play games that affirm listening to each other and honoring each other’s likes and dislikes.
Parents & Caregivers Class: We begin the 10-part series inviting adults to recall their own experiences as youth and to be intentional about how they want to support their youth who are navigating their own evolving identity and relationships. This is open to all adults, with or without youth participating, and intended to support conversations at home.

Donations Update
Collection of NEW ONLY Items for Grace Church, Drop off at CUUC
THANK YOU, CUUC, for donating gently-used winter clothing throughout December. The spirit of our Mitten Tree was alive and well, thanks to your support! At this time, Grace Church cannot accept more used clothing -- they do not have storage space -- so we are only collecting new items for men, women, and children (underwear, socks, gloves, hats, toiletries), which are still much needed. You can place items outside CUUC's doors, using our bins. Please call Ray (914-592-4497) when you drop off a donation. You can also support Grace Church's outreach with donations to Lifting Up Westchester. Click here to learn more about how to support our neighbors in need.

UU the Vote
Gratitudes and Plans - A heartfelt thank you to all who joined in the UU the Vote action this election season. The news events of the past week show how important it is that a responsible leader was elected president and that the Senate will be able to enact legislation for the common good. Our humble actions helped strengthen this democracy. An invitation: We are hoping to form a voting rights advocacy social justice team and will announce an exploratory session soon. Please consider joining us. Contact: Karen Leahy ( karenleahy101@gmail.com).

From Hunger and Homelessness
Happy New Year! - This year, our Hunger and Homelessness HOPE Kitchen Team has prepared and donated more than 1,100 lbs of chicken; over 600 lbs of vegetables; almost 9,000 eggs for sandwiches; plus countless sweets and treats. When we started in May, we thought our project could provide extra food for the community just throughout the summer. Instead, the effort has continued and grown thanks to contributions from CUUC, a grant from No Child Goes Hungry, support from friends, family, congregations and the larger community, and the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Now our team is projected to work with HOPE through May 2021. HOPE Community Services sends its deepest gratitude for our continued support, as they work to meet the increasing demand for food among our neighbors in need. January Share the Plate: Interfaith Council of New Americans
This month we donate half our non-pledge collection to the Interfaith Council for New Americans of Westchester (ICNAW), a coalition of local congregations that welcomes refugees resettled into our area. ICNAW is providing financial and logistical support now to three families locally and a fourth upstate. It has truly taken a village of volunteers to enable and empower these refugees. Click here to learn more, or contact Robin Rocchi ( robinandal@verizon.net) or Jane Dixon ( lilrhodie@gmail.com). Mail checks to CUUC with the memo "Share the Plate - ICNAW" or click here to pay online, and select "Share the Plate."
