IN-PERSON WORSHIP IN THE SANCTUARY & LIVESTREAM

Sun Sep 20, 10am “We Begin Again in Love” ~ Rev. Danielle Lindstrom

Each Sunday, all are invited to join us. Through ritual, story, and music, we explore together themes that inform our faith, challenge us to go deeper, and call us to action with love at the center. We hope you find care, support, love, and community here. Each service is a little different. The one thing that never changes: it is good to be together.

The nursery is staffed for young children starting at 9:45am. K-12th Grade Religious Exploration classes begin this Sunday! All are welcome to stay after worship for our Brunch Potluck. Bring a dish to share! Religious Exploration families are meeting at 11:30am. Make a plate at the potluck and join us in the Fireside Area.

Our service music will feature guest cellist Gloria Kim performing Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei” and other Yom Kippur-themed music.

Messages from Ministry

From Our Minister ~ Rev. Danielle Lindstrom

Our finish the sentence invitation for September-

“I came to CUUC because…. I stay at CUUC because ....”

“I came to CUUC because I am a Unitarian in a new town. I stay because this place ROCKS!”

“....we needed a home and RE. ….. I found MY home.”

“....I was looking for community….I am accepted.”

“... I wanted to sing in the choir and wanted RE for my child….this is the community that makes me feel loved.

“....I was looking for a place of community where our family could grow with others…I am inspired to follow the example of others in doing good works for our community.”

Just a few examples of the fill in the blank cards on our CommUUnity table in the Fireside area.

The CommUUnity table will have information and flyers on upcoming events, printed calendars, Journey Group packets, someone from our engagement team to answer any questions, and so much more!

Each month, there will be a question or a fill in the blank card as another way to share our stories and experiences with one another. Some months they may be specific to the theme, others to our journey at CUUC. It is a way to both share and learn a bit more about our community.

If you are looking for some small joy and connection, take a moment to read some of the cards that are hanging up on the pillar behind the CommUUnity table.

Also on the CommUUnity table, the water drop keychains from last Sunday. They are our bag tokens for the 2026-2027 congregational year. We have LOTS! Please grab one and place it somewhere you will see it often. May it remind you of the care and love from your community.

If you are unable to come in person and would like one mailed to you, please email me, minister@cuucwp.org.

We are building a community with love at the center that can hold all of us, as we are, as we are becoming. May it be so.

From Our Minister of Faith Formation ~ Rev. Tracy Breneman

From Our Director of Music ~ Adam Kent

About This Sunday’s Music

Abraham Mendelssohn, the father of Felix, once quipped, “I spent the first third of my life as my father’s son and the second third as my son’s father; I’d like to spend the last third as myself.” By this, he alluded to his father, Moses Mendelssohn’s, status as a preeminent Jewish philosopher of the German Jewish reform movement, and his son (and daughter’s) statuses as musical prodigies. Although Abraham converted the family to Lutheranism, Felix would remain mindful of his Jewish roots, and the Nazis saw fit to ban his music in spite of the conversion. On the eve of Yom Kippur, it seemed fitting to include some of his charming “Songs without Words” for piano in this Sunday's Gathering Music.

Cellist extraordinaire Gloria Kim joins us for Jewish-themed works by Ernst Bloch as well as Max Bruch’s timeless setting of the Kol Nidre, the most sacred prayer in the Jewish liturgy.

Program: Spiritual Direction through Art

Archaeology of the Spirit: Arts-Based Spiritual Direction Group with Rev. ReBecca, 8-week program at CUUC, Time to be decided by group, Space is limited to 5

Join Rev. Sala for an 8-week program to explore your inner life through art, using whatever medium calls you into connection with the sacred — paint, clay, the written word, textile arts, or otherwise. This is not an art class or art therapy. There is no critique, no instruction, and no requirement that anything be finished. It is a practice of deep listening: to the sacred, to one another, and to what is stirring beneath the surface of your life. Sessions are 90 minutes, at a time that works for the group. Space is limited to 5. If you're interested, please reach out to Rev. Danielle, minister@cuucwp.org. Rev. Sala is part of the Meadville Lombard Spiritual Direction Certification Program and is beginning her practicum year.
