Sun Apr 4, 10:00am ~ “Easter in These Times”
~ Rev. Meredith Garmon
The themes of Easter -- rebirth and renewal -- are timeless. But the times are different. And yet, after all, the times are always different.

Sun Apr 11, 10:00am ~ “Attain the Good You Will Not Attain”
~ Rev. Meredith Garmon
Attachment to results can – in limited ways, and in a narrow set circumstances – make the results you want more likely to happen. But a much broader good can unfold when we aren't attached to outcomes.

RE classes do not meet this Sunday. We look forward to seeing you next on Sunday, April 11th. The full RE schedule is available here, including class dates and topics. The RE Announcements doc has information for all ages, and our BIPOC and LGBTQ++ communities, plus local events and community needs. This week, there are special listings for YOUTH who are interested in photography (an amazing opportunity!) and to serve as camp counselors at Murray Grove - click here for information.
The children's class is enjoying a module on Our Interdependent Web and Environmental Justice leading up to Earth Day with lessons focused on awareness, interdependence, and stewardship. This Saturday, April 3rd, learning continues at the CUUC Spring Fling with an opportunity for all ages to learn about life on our CUUC grounds through a fun geocaching activity and using the iNaturalist app.

Is there classical piano music for Easter? Depends on the parameters. Easy enough to find arrangements and transcriptions of music connected to the holiday, in which familiar melodies trigger associations to the original words or titles... Plus the CUUC Choir provides with not one, but two (!) selections this blessed day... Read Adam Kent's blog post.

From Hunger and Homelessness
Opportunities for Giving
Help us help our neighbors in need by donating these necessities and leaving them in the plastic bins outside the CUUC doors: socks and underwear; toiletries (soap, shampoo, lotion, etc.); and household cleaning products (laundry detergent, dish soap, cleaners, etc.). We are also accepting arts and craft supplies such as crayons, markers, drawing pads, coloring books, glue, kid scissors, and anything else you might buy for your children, grandchildren – or yourself! Call Ray Messing at 914-592-4497 and leave a message so she can pick up and deliver our donations in a timely fashion.

From Reopening Planning
With the vaccine rollout going well in the tri-state area, many of you have been wondering when we will be able to get to back to in-person services. We hear you, and we know how difficult it has been to be physically separated from one another for over a year...
If conditions around the pandemic continue to improve, we will consider reopening in the early fall. Before making this determination, however, we are closely monitoring multiple factors:
- Daily New Cases are at or below 1 per 100,000 people per day in White Plains and closest towns
- New infections in the area are less than .88 per already-infected person
- Testing in the area is widespread and 3% or less of the tests are positive
- Area hospitals have less than 50% of available ICU beds in use by Covid patients
- If new variants or slow vaccine uptake has us moving in the wrong direction, we will follow the most conservative advice from the State and the CDC.
For those of you interested in the governance process for reopening (or other requests for access to CUUC building and property), the following summary is the policy adopted by the BoT at the outset of the pandemic: all requests for access to or reopening of CUUC buildings and property must be referred to the Reopening Committee. The evaluation and recommendations of the Reopening Committee are in turn submitted to the BoT for review and approval (or declination or other actions as deemed appropriate)... Read the full letter from the Reopening Committee here.

April Share the Plate: Westchester Community College Foundation Student Emergency Fund
“It has been hard during this pandemic. I have thought about leaving school. With this help I am able to stay... I cannot thank you enough.” ~ Jennifer G, WCC Student
This month we share half our non-pledge collection with Westchester Community College Foundation Student Emergency Fund. The Fund provides money and support to help students struggling to pay for food, transportation, rent, utilities, medical emergencies, and more. With help from the Fund, students are able to stay on the road to financial independence through education, thus changing their lives, their families, and their communities. The school has received over 500 applications for emergency assistance due to Covid. Our contributions truly make an impact on vulnerable students, and help change our world one person at a time through the power of education. Mail checks to CUUC with the memo "Share the Plate - WCC" or click here to pay online, and select "Share the Plate."
