K-9th & Adult RE Classes Meet Sun May 16, Zoom 8428
Faith & Justice, K-4th Grade: Children will learn about worm composting with a hands-on activity. Norm is delivering a little bucket of earthworms and soil to each child! Norm H and Laura S are leading class.

Healthy Relationships & Self-Esteem, 5th-7th Grade & 7th-9th Grade: Youth will discuss decision making in their relationships with family, friends, and partners. A key goal of this session is to increase youth’s confidence in their ability to make healthy and wise decisions. Denice T and Laura G are leading the 5th-7th grade class. Seonaidh D and Monica D are leading the 7th-9th grade class.

Parents & Caregivers as Sexuality Educators, Adult RE
This is the LAST class and the topic is supporting youth in healthy decision making. This session helps adults to affirm young people and nurture an atmosphere of trust and communication to support their child’s developing decision-making capacity. Kate C and Jane P are leading. Classes are open to all adults and intended to support conversations at home. Visit the class resources doc HERE.

This Sunday's musical selections center the work of composers outside the mainstream. These are artists to whom the so-called canon of Western Art Music owes reparations and recognition. A native of Oakland, Harry Partch rejected the traditional Western tuning system of 12 equal 1/2 steps, developing an approach based instead on a 43-microtonal division of the octave. He designed and built his own instruments to realize his vision... Click here to read Adam Kent's blog post.

Canvass Update

We are currently over 70% of the way to our $380,000 Annual Giving Campaign goal. When you fulfill your pledge, please consider using personal checks, checks from your bank, or transfers using Zelle (using email kortlandtbunch@gmail.com), because these incur no charges. While PayPal's fee is minor for small offerings it becomes significant for larger pledge payments (for example, a $1000 payment costs CUUC $22.30 in fees). Other ways to pledge include donating appreciated securities, or donating directly from your IRA. Click here to see the full letter from the treasurer. Contact Chris Kortlandt (917-821-4289, treasurerCUUCWP@gmail.com).
New 8 Principles Song - Videos Due Sun May 16

The K-4th grade class learned about the 8th Principle, chose children's language for it, and chose three tunes for a new 8 Principles Song! All PreK-12th graders are invited to record yourself singing with Adam and Laura S's sample and be in the video that we'll share on RE Sunday, June 6th. The video will be similar to the recordings you have seen our choir offer in online worship services. The hard deadline to submit your recordings is this Sunday, May 16th. Read more about the project and find video filming and submission instructions HERE. Contact Lyra Harada with questions (musicalyra13@gmail.com). Thank you very much in advance for participating. We look forward to your submissions!
Flower Photos Wanted

On Sun May 23 we will hold our flower celebration service - virtually! Instead of bringing in real live blooms, please send us pics of flowers around your residence or any place you've personally visited this spring. (Only photos you've taken yourself, please.) We'll use them to make a video montage. Email your digital files to cuucWPworship@gmail.com, or post them on CUUC's Facebook Forum: facebook.com/groups/cucforum.

Share-the-Plate Requests

Send Us Your Requests for 2021-2022 Share-the-Plate Recipients by Mon May 24
Each month we share half our non-pledge collection with an organization allied with CUUC's mission. We are accepting requests now for our 2021-2022 Share-the-Plate recipients. If you have a group to suggest, first reach out to the Social Justice Team or committee most likely to champion your request. Once you have their support, complete a request form (click to download, save, type in and email, or to print out, write in, and mail). Email completed forms to Mary Cavallero (marycava4@gmail.com) or snail mail to the office. Requests are due Mon May 24.
Our Graduating Seniors Need Your Words of Encouragement

What a year to graduate from high school and move from youth into young adulthood! Please let our seniors know they have a faith community that loves and supports them. Submit a short note to be included in hymnals gifted by the congregation. These hymnals will be an enduring reminder of beloved music, words, and community. We will celebrate Bridging for 11 youth Sunday, June 6th: Zachary Breault, Logan Breneman-Pennas, Ethan Fleck, Christopher Johnson, Madison Kung, Wesley Miller, Remie Suvanto, Jade Swiss, Maggie Young, Hannah Zipkin, and Will Zisson. Click HERE to submit your note of congratulations and encouragement. The form will be available until Sunday, May 23rd. Thank you!
Lost & Found

CUUC volunteers are hard at work clearing and reorganizing the Fellowship Hall storage closet, and they have discovered many unusual items - including a violin! If it belongs to you or someone you know, please contact the office (admin@cucwp.org) so you can be reunited!

For over a year, the CUUC Hunger & Homelessness team has supported HOPE with weekly deliveries of meal trays and lunch items prepared by our intrepid kitchen volunteers. Our plate share collection will allow them to continue, by helping pay for ingredients and supplies. Mail checks to CUUC with the memo "Share the Plate - HOPE" or click here to pay online, and select "Share the Plate."
