Upcoming Worship
Sun Sep 19, 10:00am ~ “What Family Is[Online Service]
~ Rev. Meredith Garmon

The nuclear family was a historical anomaly. For about 15 years (1950-1965), it dominated American culture, but not before then, and it has been fading ever since, though it's still often upheld as the ideal. What does family mean today?

Outdoor In-Person Service at 4:30pm - Bring your lawn chair and gather with us in the lower parking lot for an in-person version of the morning's online worship. Wear your mask and maintain social distance. Outdoor Childcare and Religious Education activities are offered in the upper lot starting at 4:00pm.
Sun Sep 26, 10:00am ~ “Caste [Online Service]
~ Rev. Meredith Garmon

Isabel Wilkerson analyzes American society as being, in its own way, as caste-based as India has traditionally been. The result is some insights for us working to make a better world for everyone.

Outdoor RE, Sun Sep 19, 4:005:30pm, CUUC Upper Parking Lot
We continue with our theme of community and curiosity about place. Children and youth begin in small groups for check-in, then learn about PlaceKeepers, people who integrate themselves with the patterns of life in nature, getting to know the inhabitants and speaking for them as we look to the future. Children and youth will pick a CUUC PlaceKeeper group to learn more about WaterKeepers, AnimalKeepers, Plant/PathKeepers and begin observations. Diane will offer childcare on the outside playground, 4:00-5:30pm. We look forward to seeing you!

*We need another childcare provider for our team led by Diane. Do you have a babysitter you love or know an adult (18 and over) who’s kind and gentle? Please contact Tracy (cucwptracy@gmail.com).
Introducing Raquel

Hello CUUC community! I am Raquel Belkin (she/her) and I will be joining you this year as part of my field education requirement at Union Theological Seminary, where I am in my second year. My religious background is Jewish-Pagan. At CUUC, I will be focusing on youth ministry, supporting the Youth Group and Coming of Age class. I am excited to meet you this Sunday afternoon at outdoor religious education and worship, or in the future!

In the arts, certain families have functioned as dynasties, enriching human expression over time and passing on a craft through generations. Other artists have formed pseudo-families, in which they are united by shared aesthetic goals and values, even if they do not share genetic material. This morning’s musical selections center the music of the Bach family, which was active in German territories for over two centuries. ... Click here to read Adam Kent's blog post.

Inquirers Series, Sundays Sep 26, Oct 17, 24, and 31, 11:30am –12:30pm, Zoom 3131. Session #1 "Unitarian Universalism and CUUC" with Rev. Meredith Garmon, Sun Sep 26
New to Unitarian Universalism? Or to Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation? Find out more about us by attending the Inquirers Series this fall. The series will be offered virtually on four Sunday mornings to welcome visitors and friends, and inform them about CUUC. (Existing members and friends are warmly welcomed, too.) Four topics are covered, one per session. You will converse with ministers, staff, and lay leaders as you learn about CUUC’s values, culture, and ministries, along with basics about Unitarian Universalism. The series will begin Sun Sep 26 with a conversation with our minister, Rev. Meredith Garmon, and continues on Oct 17, 24 and 31. Hope to see you there!
New Adult RE Class

Coming of (a Little More) Age,” 8-session Adult RE Class led by Rev. Meredith, first Friday of the month, Oct 1May 6, 7:308:45pm, Zoom 7899. First class Fri Oct 1
For Unitarian Universalists, coming of age is not a once-and-done proposition. Arriving at a stage of greater maturity including spiritual maturity is an ongoing life project. This class parallels, for grown-ups, the Coming of Age class that our youth take. It includes exercises and reflections for articulating your UU faith. We especially encourage parents and mentors of this year’s Coming of Age youth to participate.
FUSW Flood Recovery Update

The CUUC Board is pleased to share that we will be donating $10,000 to First Unitarian Society of Westchester in Hastings to help their recovery from flood damage after Tropical Storm Ida. CUUC is grateful to be in the position to offer this level of support, and thank our Endowment Committee and long line of able treasurers for making this possible. We encourage individuals to lend their support to FUSW as well by mailing in a check made out to CUUC, with the memo "FUSW Recovery" by Sep 30. Treasurer Chris K will combine the total amounts and send a single contribution. Click here to read the full letter from the CUUC Board.

Mail checks to CUUC with the memo "Share the Plate - ICNAW" or click here to pay online, and select "Share the Plate" to split your CUUC donation with ICNAW.
