PIA Launches New "Print production for Designers" Course in iLearning Center
Printing Industries of America is pleased to announce the launch of its all-new and highly anticipated Print Production for Designers course in the iLearning Center. Great print design is a combination of visual appeal and technical precision. Presented by Joe Marin, PIA’s Vice President of Education & Training, Print Production for Designers reveals the lifecycle of a printed job and explores what it takes to design and build files that print, fold, trim and finish properly.

This fast-paced e-learning course delves into core production concepts, software tips and tricks, and the right questions to ask your printer. Using real-world, visual examples and hands-on exercise files, designers will take their skills to the next level by considering the most critical aspects of print production as they create their next job.

Printing companies may also take advantage of a unique opportunity being made available by Printing Industries of America with this course. PIA printer members can use Print Production for Designers to educate their clients, designers and creatives on how to properly prepare files to build a smooth working relationship from design to finished product. Individual course logins may be purchased for just $29 each.

“We wanted to give our members the opportunity to share this course with their customers, because improperly designed files are a headache for printers and waste time and money for the client,” said Joe Marin. “This course can be passed on as a value-add or customer appreciation gift, but the benefits that a printer will receive in return are invaluable.”

The course covers:
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Types of printing processes and products
  • Specifying the project
  • Color spaces, communication and ink selection
  • Pixels, dots and image resolution
  • Dealing with fonts
  • Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat print production tools
  • Creating perfect PDFs
  • How to collaborate on a press check

Who will benefit most:
  • Customer service representatives
  • Prepress technicians
  • Designers and creatives
  • Printing clientele

How to Use LinkedIn to Build a Powerful Network
Are you connecting with the right people on LinkedIn? Want to build a stronger LinkedIn network?

In this article, you’ll learn how to make strategic LinkedIn connections to grow your influence and your business.

Why Build a Selective LinkedIn Network?

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a business professional,  LinkedIn  is the perfect social media platform to grow your business network. The platform is deliberately designed to encourage you to make connection requests to people you already know.

The key to building a powerful LinkedIn network is to choose your connections strategically. Instead of adding anyone and everyone, limiting the number of people you add to your network will ensure you see posts in your feed from people who are truly relevant or of interest to you.

4 Ways to Lower Your Rate when Processing Credit Cards
Just because there are over 1000 different rates, and numerous factors that impact the cost of accepting any given credit card, doesn’t mean you are helpless in reducing your costs. There are definitely best practices that can help you reduce costs, and improve your bottom line.

Here are 4 ways to lower your rate when processing credit cards.

  1. Swipe or Dip – If you have a customer in front of you, swiping or dipping the card will get you a lower rate than manually keying in the same card. Interchange rates are closely related to risk – the more risk a transaction holds, typically the more expensive it is. By keying in a card manually, the card brands (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) see that as card-not-present. Any time a card is considered to be away from the point of sale, higher risk is implied, thus a higher cost for that transaction. Long story short: if you can see the whites of their eyes, swipe or dip the card. Do everything you can to avoid manually keying in a transaction.
  2. Data, Data, Data – If you operate in a card-not-present world (e-commerce or mail/telephone orders), the more customer information you can provide, the lower your rate will be. With every transaction, providing the AVS information, which is the customers’ street address and zip code, will help qualify your transactions at the lowest possible rate. Even greater savings can be achieved with Level III interchange. This is unique to business and purchasing cards. Lowering the rate to this level requires a substantial amount of data to be submitted, usually from a specialized gateway like the one offered by BASYS Processing.

See practical examples and learn what printers can do to be successful in matching corporate brand colors and what valuable information brands can provide to ensure that happens successfully.

Scott Lucas , CEO / Sterling Brands
The Power of the Perfect Color

Scott Lucas, President and CEO of Sterling Brands will explore the role of color in defining a brand, connecting with consumers, and delivering a consistent brand experience.
