Prepare for Possible Rotating Outages this Summer |
Due to the recent issues of Southern California Gas Company's Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility, the State of California is predicting that electrical services in Southern California may be negatively impacted, leading to possibly multiple rotating electrical outages this summer.
What is a Rotating Outage?
A rotating outage is a controlled electric outage that is called as a last resort when there is a regional power emergency. For an hour at a time, Southern California Edison will shut down power by geographical groups, known as rotating outage groups or rotating outage group blocks, to help ease the demand on the electrical grid. These rotating outages help your community avoid larger and longer lasting power outages.
For more information, go to on.sce.com/rotatingoutages
Where do I find my Rotating Outage Group Number?
You can find your Rotating Outage Group in a number of ways:
What can I do to prevent rotating outages?
SCE, the City of South Pasadena, and the State of California encourage customers to conserve energy this summer, including reduced use of electricity and natural gas.

Flex Your Power South Pasadena!
|
This summer temperatures are expected to be high and that means a high demand for electricity. The California Independent System Operator (ISO) calls for consumers to conserve electricity during heat waves. The ISO issues Flex Alerts to the public to notify them of these high demand days, when power use can surpass the electricity supply, making electricity deliveries difficult.
Simple Actions to take in a Flex Alert
- Turn off all unnecessary lights
- Set your air conditioner at 78 degrees, or higher
- Close windows and doors
- Keep cool using ceiling fans
- Power down your computer
- Unplug electronics not in use
- Wait until after 6pm to use all major appliances
- Head somewhere cool

Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project Phase 2 is Now Underway |
The City of South Pasadena commenced construction of the Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project Phase 2 in May. This project is the second phase of a City-wide project to repair aging sanitary sewer lines.
You can assist by checking the health of your sewer lateral, the line that goes from your building to the public sewer line. Maintaining the lateral is the property owner's responsibility, and includes keeping the line flowing and free of debris such as roots, grease, and backed-up tissue paper. Clean, flowing laterals avoid back-ups into your property and do not leak sewage waste into our groundwater. Now would be a good time to have your lateral checked by your plumber. Residents and property owners should be on the look out for notifications specifying project construction start dates in your neighborhood.
