Arroyo Seco Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail |
The City of South Pasadena held a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, June 24 for the Arroyo Seco Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail. Attendees included Assembly member Chris Holden, and Agie Jordan from the Los Angeles County Regional Parks and Open Space District, City Council members and staff introduced the project to the public following City Council's decision to award the construction contract.
The project is estimated at $2.2 million and will be financed in part by grant sources. The .75-mile long multi-use trail project will extend the trail to the City of Los Angeles along the southeast bank of the Arroyo Seco Waterway bridging the current gap between the two cities. The trail is expected to increase use of multi-modal transportation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve public health. It will connect cities by creating an urban trail that provides safe routes for recreation and travel between residences, workplaces, commercial centers and schools. The new improvements will include benches, trash receptacles, water fountains, and educational signage displaying the historical significance of South Pasadena. Drought-tolerant vegetation and trees will be planted as the City continues its efforts to increase urban canopy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Project construction begins in the end of July with estimated completion in early 2018.
For more information about the project, please contact South Pasadena's Community Services Department at (626) 403-7360.

Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement is Nearing Completion |
After more than a full year of work, the second phase of the City's Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project is nearing completion.
As part of a city-wide initiative to replace aging sewer lines, the Public Works Department contracted with several companies to rehabilitate approximately 60% of the City's sewer system by the close of Summer 2017.
By utilizing Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) technology, the life of 272 sewer pipe segments, totaling approximately 83,600 lineal feet, have been extended for another fifty years.
In order to improve the effectiveness of this project, the Public Works Department would once again like to remind residents to ensure that their private sewer laterals are in good condition. Specifically, by hiring a professional to ensure each homes lateral is free of roots, grease, and other debris.
For more information on the project itself
