Public Hearing on Proposed City Budget Wednesday, June 1, 2016
|
Members of the public are invited to attend a public hearing on the City's Fiscal Year 2016-17 proposed budget during theJune 1 City Council Meeting. The meeting will be held this evening in the City Council Chambers, 1424 Mission Street, and begin at 7:30 pm. During the public hearing, the City Council will take public comment and potentially approve the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2016-17.
The public hearing on the Budget is one of several opportunities for the public to learn about and provide input during the City's budget process. It comes on the heels of the draft budget presentation at the May 18 City Council meeting and the April 27 Budget Study Session, where the Council reviewed the proposed Capital Improvement Plan and staff funding requests, and accepted public comment on the proposals. Prior to that, City staff held a Community Forum on Budget and Priorities on March 12, where over 40 community members participated in meaningful dialogue with City staff about the collective interests of the City and began to set priorities for the budget.
Public comment is strongly encouraged. While the City Council is expected to approve the budget that evening, there is one more opportunity to approve the budget at the June 17 City Council meeting, should the Council direct City staff to make further adjustments. The budget will then become effective on July 1, 2016.
Information on the current City budget and the budget process is available at
www.southpasadenaca.gov/budget. For additional information on the Budget process, please contact the Management Services Department at (626) 403-7210 or email

Sidewalk CPR Day Thursday, June 2, 2016
|
The South Pasadena Fire Department will provide free hands-only CPR training on Sidewalk CPR Day this Thursday, June 2, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Fire Station, 817 Mound Avenue, one of over 90 sites across Los Angeles County. Last year, more than 17,000 people in Southern California learned how to save a life in just five minutes with a quick lesson from local firefighters and medical professionals.
"Thanks to easy access to training, Citizen CPR is rapidly growing as a way to empower bystanders to save a life when someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest," says Captain Zanteson, a Paramedic. "We are glad to team up with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency and the American Heart Association to bring Sidewalk CPR to our local community. With 80 percent of all cardiac arrest occurring at home, we need to help family and friends learn how to double or triple their loved one's chance of survival."
Learning hands-only CPR helps local emergency responders by focusing on the first few critical minutes following a cardiac arrest. Since the lungs and blood contain only enough oxygen to keep vital organs healthy for that amount of time bystanders become heroes until emergency responders arrive on scene. With each chest compression using hands-only CPR, ordinary citizens can easily provide the ongoing blood flow needed to give the patient a much better chance of survival once responders arrive.

Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project Phase 2 is Now Underway
|
The City of South Pasadena commenced construction of the Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project Phase 2 in May. This project is the second phase of a City-wide project to repair aging sanitary sewer lines.
You can assist by checking the health of your sewer lateral - the line that goes from your building to the public sewer line. Maintaining the lateral is the property owner's responsibility, and includes keeping the line flowing and free of debris such as roots, grease, and backed-up tissue paper. Clean, flowing laterals avoid back-ups into your property and do not leak sewage waste into our groundwater. Now would be a good time to have your lateral checked by your plumber. Residents and property owners should be on the look out for notifications specifying project construction start dates in your neighborhood.
